Moving day

I'll admit, I've never been the smartest cookie in school so when my dad told me we were moving to the USA I had no clue where that was or what was about to happen. Mind you, my vocabulary only consisted of three languages at that point(Spanish, Dutch and Catalan a native tongue). English was not a language I thought I ever needed to learn.
The day we moved I remember feeling scared and excited but I know I didn't grasp the whole concept of how my life was never going to be the same again.
My first impression of the US was that everything appeared to be XL. The houses, streets, food proportions. Everything was huge, it made me feel like an ant. I won't deny how awful my first couple of months/years were. Not because I hated the place but because my language barrier made me feel more secluded than ever before. It took me a few years to master the English language.
I did miss my old life and my friends. I had spent 12 years surrounded by the same people. A change of this magnitude depressed me and broke me for a while.
I had given up everything that Brought me joy. Even my love for painting had diminished for a while.
