Getting back up

in mspsteem •  6 years ago  (edited)

It's sometimes hard to understand the long road of life. You don't always know where it's going to take you or if you are even on the right road, but you are where you are whether you like it or not. I have been on quite the the long road lately in my journey of life these past few years and have lost my way more than once. Getting back up and continuing down that road after you fail is never easy but I know how much better life is when you have direction and are working towards a goal or dream rather than just walking through life like a zombie, just existing.

After my most recent huge fail in life it has taken me over 6 months to get through the self pitty, the depression, the anxiety and the urge to just give up. I finally feel like I have taken some control back of my life with my morning routine. I wake up every morning around 6am, while I'm waking up for the day I read something positive for about an hour and then at 7am go for a 4 mile walk with my dog Rosko. While on this the walk I try to think about my goals for the day, I think about who I need to be to tackle the day, I think about my past, my present and how I want my future to be. It is a great time to just take in nature and really let my mind wonder.

After my walk, I take my other dog Loki down to an empty field and play fetch with him because he loves fetch and hates walks. This gives me a little bit more time to decide what needs to be accomplished for the day. I make a mental checklist of all the chores I want to accomplish, the work out I want to do, the bills I want to pay, the steemit post I want to write and in what order I want to get things done. By the time most people are getting up in the morning I have already had over a hour and a half of activity in.

When I get done with the dogs I start working out right away, I hate working out with ever fiber in my body but I love how I feel when I am done so I just get it done. I don't kill myself, I do enough to make sure I will feel it the next morning, I add reps every week so I am always improving and always pushing myself. That's the secret I found to working out, don't over do it, don't under do it, make realistic goals and COMPLETE the workout every time! It will make you feel great and it will keep you coming back instead of just quitting it.

While I'm working out I listen to motivational speeches, I know it sounds dumb but the truth is they really inspire me to be a better person and to continue pushing forward in life even when it seems like all the cards are stacked against me. Once you listen to a bunch of them you will start to see the pattern, they all basically say the same thing but sometimes I need to hear people telling me not to quit, not to give up, to get back up when I fall and to keep going towards my goals even if no one else understands. One of my favorite quotes that is constantly said is:

Win your morning and you will win the day!

That is what I am working on right now, winning my morning and day by day things are getting a little bit better, a little bit easier and things are starting to work out and fall into place. It's not so much about what you are doing, just that you are doing something, being proactive instead of reactive. "It is better to be prepared for an opportunity that hasn't come yet then to not be ready and let an opportunity to pass you by." I don't know what I want or what I am working towards but I feel like I will know when the time comes. Life is a funny thing, everything is about perspective and when you take care of yourself and have a routine your perspective is instantly better regardless of your situation.

I still have a long way to go, but this past month has been a great start to getting back to being the happy go lucky hippie that everyone loves. I find myself smiling more and getting angry less. I find myself shaking off negativity faster and not letting small things that I have no control over ruin my day. And I always try to remember that

Worrying is like a rocking chair..... It gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere!

So if you are trying to improve your life, you have to remember your not going to just wake up one day and feel like fixing yourself, change is always hard, you have to force yourself to get things done! You have to force yourself to change, or nothing will ever change. But I promise you if you put in the effort and refuse to let depression and anxiety get the best of you then you will beat it and you will find happiness again!

Another post filled with wise words. I'm still processing the one I read a couple of days ago about talkïng the walk in the morning.

Everything you say is so recognizable. The big difference is that you are actively trying to take your life into your own hands again, and that I am reading your posts, thinking: "He's absolutely right. I should follow his example, because I know it is the right way to go.", but then do nothing, except for not forgetting about your words.
So I guess I will get there some time soon. I just need to get off my ass and start doing what I know will be good for me.

Thanks again for reminding me that nothing gets fixed by itself overnight. Not that I don't know fixing life and yourself is hard work and your own responsibility... I just need to be told regularly ;0)

Wonderful advice @moderndayhippie, so encouraging to hear how you've picked yourself up! I've been through a bad depression after my brother's suicide, took years to get out of it, and like you say it's hard work but really so worth it! Well done!

I totally enjoyed reading
your philosophies and disciplines
@moderndayhippie
while I sat in my rocking chair! 😀
Seriously though, great advice!
Your handsome dogs are blessed
to have the loving owner you are.

A morning walk with dogs sounds like a perfect way to start the day in a grounded way. I'm not a fan of workouts - I prefer doing yoga, which I find astonishingly strengthening. But you have to do a kind of exercise that's right for you. And it sounds like you have a good disciplined routine, which I could really do with developing. A good way to put a difficult period in your life behind you.

welcome back

The good thing is you took action. That's the difference between those that win and those that don't. Getting an early start to the day is also something I read about. It said that most successful people start their day early.

It's not that you're going to succeed, you've already chosen the right fork in the road. All the crap you had to put up provided you with the tools to make the right choices. We're rooting for you, Bro!

It's cool that you found yourself again! I wish You not to stop and only forward! Great post!

Working on it atleast, its a process for sure.. glad u liked the article, thanks for the comment.

It is so wonderful when you finally start seeing a 'new normal' emerge. Taking walks outside/in nature helps so much. Happy to read that you are feeling better. I once had a very wise woman tell me, "Enjoy your depression"....in other words, enjoy the rain. That always stuck in my mind and I think, in a lot of ways, it is true. It is in our most trying moments that we grow the most.

This was really inspirational to read. And I totally think winning the morning wins the day. When you wake up with a plan, you will be productive. And even if the rest of your day seems rough, knowing that you already saved the day during the morning really helps. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like you have an excellent routine going that is working well for you. It's always such an amzing feeling when we manage to figure that out for ourselves. You've also given some really good advice here. I also hate working out but the way you put it here makes me realise that I've been looking at it all wrong. Like you said, just get it done!

I'm pretty sure everyone hates working out LoL.. But I can't lie, I feel so much better about myself and much more confident after a workout.. Plus, accomplishing a goal by pushing yourself every morning will make the rest of your day seem easier. Give it a shot for 30 days, you will get addicted to the results.. 😎

I don't know if you intended this post to be of a "motivational" nature or not, but it is definitely an inspiration! Kudos for sharing such positive vibes with #steemitbloggers 💙

Not so much motivational as inspirational.. I wrote it because I feel like a lot of people are in the same situation, feeling depressed, lost in life and don't know how to get of that funk.. I have beaten these feelings before so I know what to do (but it is still hard for me) and thought it might be able to help other people out as well.. I guess I wrote it to inspire myself and others. Glad you liked it 😁

I am cheering you on for such good efforts from your end!!! I once read of this: no one can meet us in our pits. It's only when we climb ourselves out of it, then we will see people standing there for us. After all, when we are in our "pits", we can only hear our own voices and sometimes it's hard to exercise faith to believe we can change.

Kudos in your working out and pushing yourself out again. It's so hard but you can do the hard things, and you are already doing it @moderndayhippie! So inspiring!

I've wrestled with the black dog (depression) for many years, and what you're saying makes absolute sense. Sending oodles of good juju to you as you continue your inspiring journey. 😊 💜

Great read for a motivation of the today!

I like listening to those motivational talks too
Even though they are saying all the things you already know, it just kinda cements it for you
And I love that quote on worrying
Thank you for sharing @moderndayhippie 😊

Congratulations for taking the proverbial bull by the horns and working to "get back up"! Life really is way too short to not do it. And do what works for you ... some may think the motivational tapes are stupid, but who cares? It works for you! :)

Great advice, with the morning rutine,
I think that always gives you a good start.
Thanks for sharing!!!

Not sure about depression, I have been into the "self-help always think positive thing", but I have later come to think that sometimes we just need to be depressed for a bit, maybe to get time to evaluate things or change our way of thinking so it works better with the reality around us...

But what do I know...

Nice dogs by the way!
