Second Sun Control Challenger Deck (This One Hurts) Deck List Included

in mtg •  6 years ago

I am going to start out this post by saying: I hate control decks as much as you. But have you played this one? It is fun (every once in a while) to be the jerk and stop everything an opponent does.

This deck is a "ready-to-play deck and sideboard" from Wizards. I have heard quite a few good things about it from various channels around the internet, and I happened to find it in a store. The price tag on it was $30 (which is probably really high) but playing with it a few times, the cost was worth it.

The whole point of this deck is to cast Approach of the Second Sun twice, and you win the game. You are able to do this by stopping everything an opponent does, or control them. Hence the name, Second Sun Control.

Deck list is at the end of the post.

Approach of the Second Sun

Behold the focal point of this deck. There are three of these in here. The catch with this card is that you put it seventh from the top card on your library and gain seven life. One tricky thing is that I have played a game with this deck and the other player remembered how far down AotSS was and made me discard it with some ability. Take care to make sure you draw that card!

With the high mana cost of AotSS, this deck is supported by counter spells that also have the cycling ability (come to think of it, lots of this deck has cycling). Again the point of this deck is to cast AotSS twice from your hand and you win the game. FOCUS ON THAT.

Kefnet the Mindful

I like Kefnet in this deck because of it's ability. I wouldn't even try making it a creature by having seven or more cards in your hand, you need to use its ability to draw more cards. By using it's ability, you could get seven or more cards in your had by collateral but it is not the focus.

Fumigate

How can you not add Fumigate to a control deck? This card can be a lifesaver and can clear off token generating decks. Another bonus to this card is that you get one life for each creature killed! (Don't forget that you have only one creature in this deck, you don't need to worry about killing your creatures)

Supreme Will

This is one of the cards I was talking about above. It doesn't have cycling, but it allows you to go through the top four cards of your library and choose one of them to add to your hand. Works great after casting AotSS once already, reducing your wait of seven turns down to three.

Glyph Keeper

Glyph Keeper is technically in the sideboard, but it is still a great card. @tarotbyfergus likes this card as well. Read the rulings on this card and be ready to add it to your deck.
