Magic: The Gathering - A Pack from Conspiracy: Take The Crown

in mtg •  7 years ago  (edited)

Wizards of the Coast released a couple special sets of cards specifically designed for booster draft events and included special cards that affect the draft experience as an extra game mechanic. These sets were Conspiracy and Conspiracy: Take the Crown. The latter included the concept of becoming the monarch (or attacking the monarch) as a new game mechanic to change the player interaction. Most of the cards may also be useful in Modern or EDH. So I bought a pack. Let's take a look!

None of the commons in the top row really grabbed my interest. They may be useful for some decks though.

Uncommons

Fang of the Pack is better than it looks at first glance. It hits hard, and it makes another creature hit harder.

Illusion of Choice is very useful in Conspiracy, or in decks that borrow cards from Conspiracy, because there are many cards that allow all players to vote for which effect is applied.

Beast Within can replace any permanent anyone controls with a beast token. It could remove a powerful creature, annoying enchantment, or dangerous artifact. It could even replace one of your own permanents if it seems tactically useful. It seems like a solid green card.

Rare

Throne of the High City is a land that generates colorless mana and can be sacrificed to become the monarch. It's not very good, but colorless land might be useful for someone building an entirely colorless deck.

Conspiracy

The Conspiracy card is useful only in a Conspiracy draft and offers a special bonus if you use it. These add extra insanity to the game though, and ensures variety and action from the start.

Conclusion:

Great set for drafting. Potential utility in other formats depends on what you need. Not as outrageously priced as any of the Masters sets since it's the same as any standard pack. What do you think?

For a financial point of view (the view I always look at when cracking packs), Beast Within is your winner. You got shafted on the rare.

Boxes of these are still quite cheap, but I would probably draft the original even though on paper Conspiracy has the greater value. That foil Brainstorm being a common is always a possibility.

The card certainly has the most general utility in this pack. I would like to attend a draft event if another Conspiracy set is launched, but I am not exactly proficient in that format of the game. Still, I can say this set and its predecessor look ideal for that purpose.

'not exactly proficient in that format of the game'

I can say the same! I may just do the Dominaria pre-release, though I rarely attend them these days. It looks like a decent set and I do like Legendary cards.

I signed up for that prerelease at my FLGS already.

I'm loving that more people are posting card game related stuff on here! I'm going to try to post a few card opening videos each week. I loved both of the conspiracy sets, but only for draft. I don't think there is much value in the cards outside of EDH. Some of the foils are worth bank though, I opened one worth $50 and sold it immediately. Due to the nature of Steemit it might be a good idea to post images with links to imgur or something so we can blow up the pictures to actually read the cards. It's hard to see what cards you have in the image. I think I'm going to start doing that for images too. Liked and Resteemed like usual.

I posted that from my phone, but when using my computer, I try to edit the image after a drag-and-drop so it can be expanded. I'll edit this post that way, too.

For those unfamiliar with markdown, you can place brackets around the image embed code, and then copy/paste the image URL itself in parentheses again after the brackets to turn an image into a clickable link. Alternatively, the second link can redirect to a product website or source credit page if desired.

Nice post boss man.
Keep up the good work Sir
