The "One Ring," a "Lord of the Rings" themed card from "Magic: The Gathering," of which only one exists in the world, has finally been discovered. The card currently has a $2 million bounty on it.
As reported by The Gamer, "The One Ring," the only one of its kind in the world, was discovered by someone who knew its value without it being stolen and was immediately sent to PSA, a card authenticity and grading service.
Dave & Adam's Card World, a trading card buying and collecting company, initially put a $1 million bounty on the card and is now paying $2 million, but because the card was just discovered, no deal has been made yet. The owner of the card wishes to remain anonymous, according to PSA.
The "One Ring" was graded MINT 9, the second highest grade in the PSA. It is unfortunate that it did not receive the highest grade of GEM-MT 10, but earning this grade is extremely difficult and is based on factors beyond the owner's control, such as text placement and printing standards.
What is important to the card game community and to the soon-to-be millionaire card owner is that the "one ring" was found in good condition, earned a grade that guarantees quality, and is now stored in a secure plastic case.
If the sale for $2 million is realized, "The One Ring" will be the most valuable card in the history of "Magic: The Gathering" (and all trading card games). The highest-priced card at the moment is "Black Lotus," which sold for $540,000 (about $71 million) in March.
The collaboration between "Magic: The Gathering" and "The Lord of the Rings" was announced in August 2021 and released on June 23, 2023. In addition, the video for the collaboration pack "The Lord of the Rings: the Lore of Middle-earth" featured Elijah Wood, who is well known for his role as Frodo Baggins.
