Which router with multicast IPTV stream will pass flood test?

in multicast •  6 years ago

What I need?

  • router with gigabit ports
  • VLAN support
  • WiFi 2.4/5GHz
  • IGMP Snooping (nice to have)
  • easy firmware update (without any issue such like reset to default settings after update)
  • most important there shouldn't be any multicast packet drop (i.e. no pixels squares) during testing procedure

Testing configuration looks like

  • internet tariff:  300 Mb/s download and 150 Mb/s upload
  • two laptops in LAN ports 1 and 2
  • one STB MAG 255 in LAN port 3 with full HD stream
  • one IPTV multicast probe STB-1001S2 with IPERF in LAN port 4

What did the test procedure look like?

  • download multiple torrents to saturate of tariff limits
  • flooooofig with hping3 --flood IP
  • parallel download 10GB files to two laptops

Which router did I tested?

  • Uplink WR1200AC => FAIL
  • Totolink A3002RU => FAIL
  • RB951G-2HnD => FAIL
  • D-Link DIR-842 C3 => FAIL
  • D-Link DIR-825/EE rev G1 => PASS
  • TP-Link Archer C6 v2.0 => FAIL
  • TP-Link Archer C5 v4.0 (no VLAN support) => FAIL

All failed routers generates STBPlayer: TS Continuity Counter error on multicast probe.

Only one D-Link DIR-825/EE pass all test.

What problem registred multicast probe?

.. and tested Mikrotik configuration
