BMC: India's Largest Civic Muncipal Body filled with corruption ??

in mumbai •  7 years ago

Every country in the world has some muncipal corporations established in their respective states or cities to divide and diversify the work to be done ..
Mumbai the city of 18.41 million people living in (as of 2011) has its own organization named BrihanMumbai Muncipal Corporation(BMC) .

The primary duties of BMC towards Mumbai .

BMC_headquarters_in_Mumbai-2.jpg
BMC has given certain responsibilities for Mumbai such as collecting taxes and generate revenue through property taxes and other direct or indirect taxes and through octroi duty to SERVE THE CITIZENS ...!!

Exactly , the sole purpose of BMC includes taking care of :-
  • Infrastructure development
  • Drainage system
  • Water supply
  • Development of every road , footpaths etc.
In short it should have a aim of the overall development of the city

But is the job being done honestly and with full efforts .??

I'd say no... :)

Mumbai rains

If you could google "Mumbai rains" you would see some devastating pictures like this rain-mumbai-mos_082917082102.jpg
Latest scenario of Mumbai during the current rainy season..
Now, let's see how much BMC is worth ...

  • BMC is currently India's largest muncipal corporation with an equivalent budget of 10 other muncipal corporations of India (Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Nagpur, Nashik and Patna.)
  • Along with a allocated budget of 37,000 crores (Approx. 5750475968.45 USD) it receives a fixed deposit amount of 51,000 crores ( Approx.7926331740.30 USD )
    .
Out of all the money only 15-30% of all the total budget is actually spent on Mumbai.
Biggest mystery in Mumbai’s budget is that Rs 11,952 crores have been spent as “others”.

What is "Others".....!?

I'd say that is their employees ..
BMC spends more than 50% of this BUDGET to pay salaries to their employees (WWHHHAAAATTTT??)
The tax-money from the public the ,revenue generated overall MEANT to be spent on the development of a city is currently being spent on giving pay-raises to their employees ??.. Clearly , something is wrong and it is sad to say that one of the biggest muncipal corporation in whole of Asia is filled with loopholes ....!??
So, if you are an active citizen of Mumbai and a frequent and honest taxpayer you might wanna ask
"What is exactly happening with these money" ?? WELL , YOU CAN'T .......!!!!
Because, even though India is deemed as a democratic country you can't really express opinions freely and BMC don't take criticism well
..

Stories of criticism of BMC.

Since, the city suffers water clogging , poor infrastructure , troubled public transport every year and the situations become soo vunerable during rainy seasons that the concerned citizens start to ask questions and criticizing the bribes and the money management ...

  • 1 - Kapil Sharma
    ()
A famous comedian Kapil Sharma posted this tweet where he tagged Prime Minister Modi acknowledging that he had to pay a bribe of 5 lacs rupees (Approx 7769.95 USD ) to BMC intead of honest tax-payments from him over the time ..
He received hate and idiocy from fellow blind patriots (Who taught he was defaming the country by making a public tweet) Like WHHHAAAATT ??
The only way India is going to acheive development is by first accepting that WE NEED DEVELOPMENT ..
The conclusion in this case was that there was several speeches made against him and BMC heavily criticized him charging HIM of other violations instead of undertanding and investigating the matter

  • 2 - Malishka Case
So, on JUL 10, 2017 a radio jockey of Mumbai made a youtube video criticizing BMC in a jokeful manner through a song ..

The video talks about the situation of Mumbai roads every monsoon with potholes and dirty water clogging everywhere in the city ... but GUESS WHAT ....???
The city government still managed to miss the point and backfired with raids to Malishka's house (The girl who made the video) , making songs about her (Yes, BMC employees literally made a song to reply to her )
For me personally the hypocrisy is that the amount of work this city still needs is enormous ...Still, the employees can't reply a normal criticism and THEY MADE A SONG . I mean they had given in their time and effort to make a song , film it and upload while sending their people to Malishka's house regularly charging her with court cases and completely missing the point .
....
...
..
.
URGHHHHH.... What a waste of money and manpower..
The thing that upsets me more is that the video spoked of FACTS not criticism it was straight up facts which were 100% true and faced by everyone living in Mumbai every year during monsoon..
Unfortunately, this case too ended with politicians bashing her , BMC charging her with many cases including penalties and fine and completely missing the point ...

Criticism isn't allowed...

As you read , criticism not favouring the government in Mumbai can easily land you in jail but DOES THAT STOP ME ...??

Hell, no..
Eventhough , these rich organizations want the common public to be quiet....including myself .. I won't
I simply won't because i know a revolution always starts with a single man going "Wait, this is wrong" and then endless struggles and sacrifices .
But, if you re-read the pages of history you will find that every protest done with honesty and dedication and with a never-giving attitude was successful...!!
Yes' it takes time. But I would rather die fighting than living like order-obeying citizen of a so-called democratic country..
That, will be all .
