A Sculpture of the Founding King’s Master in Goryeo Dynasty Exhibition

What attracted my attention was a textile sculpture of a great monk during founding a dynasty.

A monk, his name was Huirang, helped King Wang Geon in the process of building a dynasty.

After the great master’s death, they made a really size of sculpture for him.
The way of making the sculpture was very unique in Korea.
The sculpture was made with the textile.
So, it is said that realistic expression was possible.

If you look at his face carefully, you can find the black warts on his face.

I heard that this kind of sculpture was not rare in Japan.
In my opinion, there were many in Korea too, but the whole sculptures except this one seemed to be destroyed in several catastrophic disasters.
This kind sculpture was left only one in Korea.

There was an interesting story on the birth of Huiran master monk.
He was said to come from a southern country of China.
His face looked not similar to that of the ordinary Koreans face.

But what I focused on this story was there was a communication among the countries from far away.

Wow, this is the only kind left in Korea? I'm not surprised, because it seems as if I've never seen textile sculpting before, I was looking at the material in the picture and the impression is so realistic really and it's definitely amazing, nice photography sir

The statue is very interesting. I just found out there is a statue made of textiles.

What an interesting post. I have not known of textile sculpture before. It does look very lifelike. I can't imagine how it would have survived through all of the centuries. It's sad to think that this was the only one that is still in existence.
