I was hiking around the Cascades a few years ago in the fall and got some nice mushroom pictures. As a suggestion by @valth in a new project announcement Mushroom-Monday I have decided to post a few of the pictures. These were taken with my Panasonic Lumix FZ35 under difficult lighting and terrain while being rushed. At some point I would like to go back and get better photos perhaps with a tripod.
These mushrooms can’t be collected in this area it is considered poaching. The mushroom is the fruiting body of the fungus and if you collect them all the fungus has trouble reproducing.
I’ve eaten many of the Boletus mushrooms before but never from this area. Here’s a nice size one perfect for an omelet:
There were many Boletus growing in this area - heres’ another one with a flatter looking cap of a lighter color:
Here’s a background view of the mountains that the trail was going through. It was a very blue sky day.
I’m not sure what type of mushroom this is. There are two different types in the photo. The smaller white caps are hard to see though.
Here’s some woody mushrooms growing on an old log. I don’t think these are edible they are rather tough.
I had a lot of fun that day seeing a variety of fresh mushrooms. The weather was just wonderful for the hike. I have several more pictures that I may post at some point.
Thanks for reading!
