Magic Mushrooms #mushroommonday (Free SBI)

in mushroommonday •  5 years ago  (edited)

It doesn't take long when searching for mushrooms to happen upon a few magical species and my story is no different. However, when I first came upon this particular specimen, I had no idea they were a hallucinogenic species . Just one look and them and you can see they possess magic.

I found a batch of them in the woods last week and I recognized them from, well basically, every Christmas decoration you think of. A quick check of my mushroom reference guide told me their name Fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) and that they were really poisonous so I snapped a few pictures and thought man what a great #mushroommonday post.

After leaving the area, I made a mental note that I should probably return to the woods and get rid of them since my children are playing there for kindergarten and I went on my way.

Today, when researching this post I discovered that this mushroom may be responsible for Christmas and is widely used around the world by shamans. The US Forest Service (my former employer) has done a wonderful write up on the magic mushrooms and how they may be responsible for Christmas. Please check out their website here.

It turns out European Shamans would dress up in red robes with white fuzz to collect the mushrooms for ceremonial purposes around the winter harvest and people would trip balls and see men flying around the sky in sleighs. Pretty cool huh?

I have no idea how to prepare something like this and I don't have the courage, or the time, to experiment with magic mushrooms, but I am extremely fascinated by their intoxicating effects and the power of nature.

From what I have read though, I don't think these mushrooms provide the same medical benefits as those that contain psilocybin, but there are many reports of people traveling to the netherworld and returning to life. Another prominent aspect of native European religion is the idea of reincarnation of nature and the soul and here is a great example of that.

If anyone has any experience with these mushrooms I would be very interested to know how you prepare them and what effects they had on you.

ok, here are a few nice linky links for you,
and I am ready for that one fat SBI you promised.

1stly, my post on Fly Agaric

some fun facts + my little research on their usefulness

2ndly, my friend's bambuka post

on the said mushroom. if you read you will find all you need. @bambuka is a skilled user of the said shroom. he has recipes... and he used to consume it a lot (and still does) -- and he's alive. sapienty sat, as Romans say.

bambuka's post #2

where he have finished his story

and as a bonus...

my recent post about very intresting and widely-spread mushroom that I considered to be a poisonous shit, but it turned out its not! its edible, useful and very intresting.... so, mushrooms are all around, and they are really worth some researching :P

protect choice, and have a nice day!

Wait, I meant to upvote this comment, but that will have no value to anyone, so I'm leaving where it is. Anyhoo, thanks for all those links @qwerrie!

@owasco, my pleasure. you surely may upvote comments with 2-3% SP (I do this myself all the way, and I still consider its a good idea) -- yes, it will not be payed out, but its a very visible sign of appreciation :P

Nice find, yes you're correct that the psilocin and psilocybin magic mushrooms are much more effective compared to the amanita which has muscinol and ibotenic acid.

The effects of the fly agaric are more dreamlike and subtle in comparison to the more dimensional shifting fungi.

To safely consume them usually one par boils them twice disposing of the water.. They're not a controlled substance in the USA which tells one all they need to know about their potency.. Basically they're just a bit of folklore and if one wished to see flying men I can assume eating them raw and poisoning oneself would be the only way to make that possible..

Nice to look at not much fun guy in that fungi...

Thank you very much! I have been reading non stop since I made this post. Very fascinating! The folklore behind these mushrooms alone make them very cool. They seem like they have always been an important part of our culture!

I love to talk about all things shrooms haha!

Even today it’s quite rare anyone dies from consuming them so it stands to reason that shamans in Siberia etc took care of the tribe and they had some wild experiences.

Definitely the deer seem to love them and I’ve absolutely seen cows eat cubensis and Copelandia whilst avoiding the not magical mushies in the field..

Glad to hear that! I will check it out a in a second! 😁

Wow nice specimens. I've only found a red one once, around here i usually only find yellow amanitas.

Thanks you! Been doing lots of research about these... very interesting

Posted using Partiko iOS

havent found no amanita at all this year. pretty sadly.

Gotta use it for joint pains?

Posted using Partiko Android

no, no. I am not serious. that wasnt that sort of a shroom.

ps. you have a typo in palnet tag :P

A merry Christmas indeed, nice to see the forestry report on them also. So much history for such a nice looking mushroom. We have a lot of those in Alaska, although I have not seen any this year so far.

Yes they really have peaked my interest. I have been watching YouTube videos and reading articles about them all day.

Hahaha, I was even thinking about replying something Amanita related to your comment the other day regarding the Weihnachtsmann. But instead you were quicker... or was it maybe the mushroom?

Posted using Partiko Android

Maybe it was! Old time Christmas activated hahaha

Howdy sir badger! What an amazing mushroom, stunning design it has and the information about it is fascinating as well!

Thank you very much!
