RULES FOR ADDED NOTES

"The rule for adding a note is that the note proceeding it is missing"

Take that rule to heart.
You can learn and unlearn from this

Okay;

So a chord such as
F-A-C-D-G
Is called Fmaj6add9 chord.

Reason being that the 7th which comes after the 6th and before the 9th is absent.
So that name is on point.

C-E-G-B-D-A
Is called Cmaj9add6 because the 11 before the 13[6] is missing.
So that name is on point.

Let's try this one
C-E-G-B-D

If you call this chord Cmaj9 you're correct.
But if you call it Cmaj7add9 you're wrong.

Because, adding the 9th the 7th must be absent.

Did you get the point.?

Take note of this
Learn and unlearn.
