In five years you gon' be on Love & Hip-Hop, nigga

This is the last line of J. Cole's song 1985 (Intro to "The Fall Off"). What's not shown is the line before this one that says, "Just remember what I told you when your shit flop". Together these lines express the bad stigma that has been cast on the careers of numerous artists of the Love & Hip Hop franchise. It wasn't until Cardi B dropped her smash hit "Bodak Yellow" that the curse of the show had ended and the platform truly became what it was meant for. Malik is an artist that appeared on the first season of Love & Hip Hop Miami and like Cardi B he hopes that this same platform will help propel his career to the next level. And his latest single "Not Tonight" will help him get there.

Here's what the artist had to say about the track:

"its "very personal" to sing this song because it can take you back to that space and moment in time But of course life has >moved on so did I, I knew people will relate to this song that was the main part of recording it"

Not Tonight is the first single off his upcoming EP "Next Generation". The production of the track is very 90s influenced. A heavy bassline stands out as the leading instrument that is accompanied by a simpler piano key pattern and subtle snare. Malik's vocal performance is reminiscent of early 90s vocalists like Jon B and Keith Sweat who had an enact ability to articulate their emotions while at the same time being able to express these emotions with each performance. The early 90s mashup of singer and rapper is also used as rapper Teddy Blow is also featured on the track. His words cut through the production as he tells his story of being in a bad relationship, Not Tonight blends the perfect amount of nostalgia with the perfect amount of warm melodic vocal range. If being on Love & Hip Hop created the opportunity for Malik to create "Not Tonight", then there's no need to worry about just how long his career will last.
