Chugs On Deck

(Easycore / Pop Punk)

For today's entry, I would like to introduce another Kota Kinabalu finest, "Chugs On Deck". I was in JB when they first came out and released a song called "Dance Friend!". First thought after listening to the song, I was hooked. I was impressed. "Chugs On Deck" is an easycore band consists of Eyon, Jordan, Calvin, Bobby and Rafi, all together are five gentlemen. Easycore is a subgenre of punk. It first came into notice when New Found Glory named their Fall 2008 headlining tour, "The Easycore Tour" which featured lots of powerful band such as A Day To Remember, Four Year Strong, Crime in Stereo and more. These lads can get you jumping on your feet during their show. Even if you resisting the power, you'll end up headbanging as well. Hahaha!

Take it ez!

I've seen them on stage quite a couple of time now and each time, they gave such an energetic performance. No stage was ever too big for them, they'll jump and run around the stage. I asked Jordan what is their aim in this scene, Jordan replied: "Our main target, or should I say our main purpose is to inspire people. To inspire the youngsters, the youth. Inspire with our story and our music. Not only in Malaysia but the world. Touring around the world means a lot to us. Which mean that the more we tour or the larger the scale of the tour, the larger of the opportunity for our purposes to be achieved. To inspire.". Recently, we were hanging out in KK town up until late talking and joking, and being musician, we can't avoid talking about the scene. I can say that they really do take music very seriously. We spent the night just exchanging stories, ideas and moral support.

If you love to catch them live, you should try attending their next show. Get your ticket early to avoid paying higher at door on the day.

In early 2017, they released a new single along with a new music video called "Kotak Cahaya". With positive and uplifting lyrics, they managed to gain a lot more fans and get their name out there. They were among bands in KK that's very active in social media and active in producing new surprises for their listeners. If you're still wondering what exactly easycore sounded like, check out their songs down below.
