Tour Diary #5: By:larm, Oslo, NO
The tour continues: welcome to snowy and icy Oslo and the By:larm Festival! By:larm is one of the european showcase festivals and has it’s focus on bands from the Nordic Countries. The festival also has a prize ceremony for best Nordic album, and this year it went to Susanne Sundfør’s lovely “Music For People In Trouble”.
One of my favourite Susanne Sundfør tracks is from the last M83 album “Junk”, which got some unfair criticism in my opinion. Anyway “For The Kids” is as hauntingly beautiful as it is amazingly corny.
I was in Oslo with the ever so enjoyable SVIN - what one might describe as danish instrumental drony experimental rock(?) - and they killed it as usual.
If you feel experimental then watch their new live session which I recorded in a huge old transformer station in Copenhagen.
By:larm is mostly upcoming and a lot of the program was unknown to me, although there seems to be a blossoming of cool Norwegian rock bands at the moment like HOLY, Sunshine Reverberation and Sløtface.
Random facts: Norway is the most pizza-eating country in the world per capita, everything is crazy expensive here and a beer cost around double of what it does in Copenhagen.
