Tour diary #6 - Amsterdam, NL / Brussels, BE
This time I’m on tour as FOH with Palace Winter. A good old splitter van tour. 2 shows in and 1 wing mirror down. We played Paradiso in Amsterdam and AB Club in Brussels.

Both venues is really nice institutions with multiple stages, and is probably some of the most known venues in their respective cities.
A note on house techs:
As a house tech you should be friendly, accommodating and do your best for the show to be as good as possible. You shouldn’t interfere with the artistic choices, but when asked you should do your best to provide insight into the frequency response of the room and how it might change when filled. A good house tech can make a good gig great - a bad house tech can ruin your mood. I’ve tried both on these two gigs.

A note on monitor techs:
Your job is really important for the band on stage, so please don’t act like it isn’t. Don’t sigh when the band ask you for changes - if you don’t understand the directions, just ask. Always try to improve the monitor mixes during sound check - don’t just settle. And now for the most important: have attention under the concert! If you’re looking down under the show it better be on your desk or your graphic. There’s nothing more frustrating for the band than trying to get in contact with a inattentive monitor tech. A good monitor tech is so important for a good performance - a bad one can turn even the best concert into a bad experience for the band. We’ve tried both on these two gigs.
As a hired house tech chances are that your salary is above mine, so please don’t act like you rather be at home watching Netflix. If you’ve done too many gigs in your life and rather be doing something else please do us all a favour and quit.
