Hi everyone! I haven't seen much activity from chiptune composers around here so let's fix that! I'd like to introduce myself and I hope you'll do the same whether you're a part of the scene already or just an interested gamer/musician/general nerd. <3
As an introduction, here's a brief definition of what chiptune is:
-Music that uses the soundchips of video game hardware (NES, Game Boy, Atari ST etc)
-Music that captures the feel or emulates the sound of "retro" video games but uses modern musical tools (AKA "Fakebit")
-An artistic movement that combines DIY programming, music and art under the above aesthetics.
Let me introduce you to my instruments:
The Game Boy Advance SPs are stock, but the Game Boys are modified with backlit screens, isolated audio outputs for enhanced bass and reduced hiss (remember plugging headphones into these things?) and even a separate stereo output for the Galaxy-painted lil' guy on the left.
Sometimes I play live with them at gaming events, clubnights and learning-oriented workshops using a DJ mixer to swap between my Game Boys as if they're turntables playing my own, original music (and the occasional video game cover version.)
The great thing about making music this way is how portable it is. I can take my entire production suite on the bus, to work or on holiday.
I'm going to be uploading some tutorial and playthrough videos in the near future, but for now I hope you enjoy my music at https://soundcloud.com/auraclechiptune
Let me know what you think! See you again soon with a playthrough of one of my tracks that shows how my production software works. Have a good one! <3

I do have an old gameboy colour, would be interested in finding out where to start with using it to produce music.

I'd be happy to help! You can actually start off and get to grips with the software without a Game Boy, for almost-free using an emulator (BGB is the best if you're on Windows.) The software I use is available for $0.01 (plus optional donation) from www.littlesounddj.com
I'll be making a few tutorial-style videos soon, please keep an eye on my blog/DTube channel for that!
