WEEK 2 // In The End

What's with the song title?

It's a working title, taken from the chorus of the song. Classic.

What inspired the idea?

Two things inspired this idea. On the production side, it was a YouTuber talking about Bon Iver. We're paraphrasing a bit but it went something along the lines of "Bon Iver is one of those artists that we all wish we could be as good as, but but are too self conscious to try". It really resonated with us, and especially with the new way of writing music we're trying. Getting in your own head and worrying about whether the music "fits" is a massive killer of creativity. So on the music side we said we wouldn't question any decisions and just let the song happen.

On the lyrics side the song was written right after watching the Hang The DJ episode of Black Mirror. As it stands, Alice is telling the story of technology which complicates & strips the spark out of what should be the simplest of human interactions. There are vocals for the verse and middle eight but they're not ready to share.

Anything interesting about the production of the track?

The dog barking sounds is actually a steel drum
One of the sounds you hear in the pre chorus and chorus is a Hohner Guitaret being played with a sugar packet! (image below)
The chopped vocal sample you hear in the second verse is actually from a song we wrote called Fountains which we never finished.

Likelihood of this making it to the album?

8.5/10
We love this one. There is still a tonne of work to do but it's going to be a keeper!
