Making An Album Cover Ourselves // PART 3 // Getting The Shot

in music •  8 years ago  (edited)

Today it's all about the process of taking the perfect photograph for our debut album cover.

Part 3
Getting The Shot!

First up was Alice. We asked her to just start dancing to the songs from the album, she's got a unique style so she went with it:

It was beautiful and dynamic. As soon as we started seeing the shots come through it was exactly what we needed and could use for the album cover.

Next up was me. With Alice's shoot having so much movement and purpose I knew I needed to try and keep up. So I grabbed the cushions from a sofa in the side room and piled them up. I was going to launch myself backwards, hold a pose and land without bracing for impact. The idea was to make it look like I had been thrown backwards and was falling rapidly.

After a full night of shooting we went home with 1077 photos. We knew that there had to be enough photos to make something good.

The hard part now was to go through all of these files and pick the ones we liked. There were so SO many to choose from.

As we went through them, it became clearer and clearer what we wanted. Suddenly it was obvious how the artwork was going to look. We refined and refined until we were left with two final photos:
