I understand and appreciate all the technical innovations launched by artists such as The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, and for that, they deserve universal applause.
However, when it comes to Rush, they are on a completely different level. Not only do they have longevity backing them up, but they also influenced a much wider array of music genres and artists, battled against the conformist ideals of mainstream record companies, and toured exhaustively throughout the decades. We have the greatest drummer, the greatest bassist, and one of the greatest guitarists... all wrapped up into one eclectic package of awesomeness!!
Perhaps I might seem a tad bit cynical for saying this, but I think the ONLY reason why Rush are undervalued by the collective society is because they are all simply still alive. For some reason, the masses seem to put more emphatic credibility to an artists once a member of the group becomes deceased. There is such a thing as living legends, and Rush are it. To say you've never heard of Rush is like saying you've never heard of Led Zeppelin.. or The Beatles... or The Rolling Stones. Simply put, they dominate the world of rock and in my extremely honest opinion, they are the greatest rock band to ever exist.
