I don't read much non-fiction these days, but as soon as I heard about this one, I had to grab it up. I was a fan of New Order and the post-Hacienda days before I was ever a fan of Joy Division, but the years have turned me onto them and they've become a staple of my playlists.
Hook's book is one that's endlessly fascinating (from a musician's standpoint). I had some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments with the prank wars between JD and the guys in the Buzzcocks. Truly a fun read, even though there was a bit of a repetitive nature in some of the passages (the timelines coming AFTER the text explaining them all in detail, the constant "ian had it harder with the wife and a kid at home," etc...)
And yet, still a fantastic read. Like I'm listening to one of my own old bandmates from my high school days retell the stories from our days of playing. Super grounded, super entertaining. Top notch. Read it in a matter of days, which tells you something since the non-fiction I do read is pretty few and far between
Great!
