Cover #3 - "Count Your Blessings"

in music •  7 years ago  (edited)

I wonder if it's the beginning of the year or someone is trying to get this message across, I've been seeing lots and lots of posts regarding 'thankfulness'and 'grateful'. I guess it's something essential to sustain us. Without it, the world would seem like it crumbling down upon you due to complaints and dissatisfaction over every single thing.

I personally am very gifted. Gifted in complaining. My complaining skills have often times caused a waiter to change my food that was being served or a customer service representative to quickly solve my problem. But little did I know I've come to develop a short fuse. Something that doesn't bode well with parenting. Or even just healthy, happy living.

The antidote of all that is definitely a grateful attitude. It's a character trait that can be honed and developed. A grateful person is also very attractive as well. People tend to gravitate towards such people. I, for one, wouldn't like people to shy away from me just because I always behave like an ungrateful brat.

"Count Your Blessings" is actually a hymn that my mother taught me to play when I was really young. It has a catchy tune to it. I decided to put a twist to make it slightly more relaxed, providing a peaceful and calming effect (hopefully). Hope you enjoy my take on this song. :)

I personally am very gifted.

You baited me there! Hahaha you're extremely gifted bro - with amazing musical skills, with a wife whose skills complement yours, and also to be a part of the #teammalaysia family!!

hahaha! thanks for dropping by. we certainly have boatloads of talent in #teammalaysia! :)

You're welcome mate. Pleasure to drop by on your music covers @calebleejl!

It is very enjoyable...thank you for sharing this piece with us...hoping to see more... :D

aww. thanks for dropping by. you've heard it before this? :)

Another nice cover. Okla, I am sure this year you will look more attractive because you count your blessings daily. You are right there seems to be alot topics on thankfulness and gratefulness, I dont mind to add on to it too. By the way this is my 1st time heard of this song. Thank you for sharing.

hahaha! thanks for listening! strangely I would have expected you to have heard of it, but then I recall reading that you became a Christian much later in life and was actually the first in your family right? and yes I see this topic on your blog as well. it's a good reminder. keep writing! see you around :)

Yes I became Christian later in life and the 1st in family or I would say with my sister. But my story of how i met Jesus and wanted to serve Him became the talk in town haha. you and wife jia you. Much strength to you juggling around with the new princess in family. Send my regards to your wife ❤

wuah. talk of the town! nice nice. should be a powerful testimony.

my wife's amazing as usual. but am grateful my in laws around. makes life so much easier. don't even need to send my son to school :p

hahaha! could totally imagine your voice in a MMA fight announcer style saying that. thanks for your kind words lah. I ain't that talented :p

Only one step short of greatness :)

Almost there!

🕴🏻

Loved it, I wanna hear more of your covers with your wife singing!

thank you! will get her to sing once she's feeling better. in the meantime, just waiting for @nanastraybutt ;)

lol, gifted in complaining, LMAO, I would used a different vocabulary to that. I call it negotiation skills (it sounds better =D), it has some similar sides but at the end it's the result that matters right?

I wonder of your complaining skills can let u get an upgrade in a flight, hmmm... it is definitely a skill i wished I have so I can make good use of it.

hey! how have you been my friend? been awhile since we engaged! I see that you've been away?

you're right about that negotiation thingy. a better word which means the same thing. hahaha! I actually have a friend who always gets an upgrade! she told me you have to look important. dress up for your flight. and sound important as well. oh well. I wear flip flops to the airport :/

oh yes, i was away for awhile, i just finished the semester and spent time with friends. in the midst of packing some stuff too. But I will definitely be back very soon =)

Like it ... Sounds great on headphones 😂

thanks! 🎧

What a great sentiment. I attempt to be grateful for every day. Very talented fingers you have. Cheers!

you can do it! never too late to start :)

What? Play piano? I'm sticking to my Sax fingers for now, lol.

cool! planning to post a saxophone cover with my teacher. have you done any cover of sorts?

No... it's been a long while since I have played. I need to get back at it again. Been on my list of things, but once I do, look out! :) lol

I'll definitely keep a look out on you! ;)

Well thank you. Keep the pressure up, lol.

Nice! @calebleejl. Your post made me laugh AGAIN.

I personally am very gifted. Gifted in complaining.

But very vulnerable of you to say that. I think being thankful is a habit and someone tells me every habit can be cultivated in 21days of practices. Being grateful is also my greatest weakness cos I too complain a lot and be quite pessimistic. Now I know that's a gift too that needs to be tackled and be dealt with. Hahaha.

hahaha! thanks for layan-ing. do aspire to bring laughter to mankind. working on my humour ;)

so have you heard this hymn? seems like quite a few people feedback that they have never heard. I've also heard of the 21 days thingy too. now it's time to put it to practice. perhaps should try some journaling. good way to start off the year! :) thanks for the 21 days tip. and also for always dropping by! appreciate much. minnows rock!

Is it count your blessings one by one....something something something? I am not sure because your rendition is much jazzy and different and I am quite noob in music too. I may have heard of it from the time when I was in Methodist Church last time. But I can only remember the chorus part only. I also am a first gen Christian so maybe havent heard of some hymms too lol @calebleejl

you are right! oh. you're a first gen Christian. no worries about it. nowadays got too many songs as well. gospel music has progressed much. who do you listen to by the way? :)

I used to listen a lot to Bethel Music, Steffany Gretzinger and Kari Jobe if you know them. That's before I gave birth haha. Now I listen to what the worship leaders usually sing. Hahahah. I always play a song that speaks to me over and over. For now, it is Reckless Love by Cory Asbury :)

ooo. yes Bethel's the hype now. will check out Reckless Love though. thanks for the recommendation! :)

What a way to start the year though (being grateful)! But let's be honest, you have more people gravitating towards you than people shying away from you ;)

I'd play this rendition on repeat while casually gaming on a relaxing afternoon! Do more please! :)

aiseh. got that nice meh? I think maybe you can venture into podcasts leh. just throwing out some ideas ;)

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

hahah! possible, or maybe I'll venture into being a game developer and you can be lead composer ;)

hahahaha! really meh? wow! 🕹

I like the song!(So much I had to play it twice lol.) Also good insights about gratitude. That is all very true.

thanks for your support man! :)

Wow, you rock!!

thank you! :)

Great post, the fact that you can pen it down means you've realized a great deal how it has affected your life and surrounding and that's a good first step towards change. We all need reminders from time to time, cheers to a greater year ahead! :)

hey! so sorry I missed this reply!

indeed reminders are placed in our lives to help us improve. hopefully most of them are gentle ;)

thanks for dropping by!

nice bossa feel to it :D Keep it up bro :) You're doing so well on steemit already :)

can do better. let's do this together! :)

Count Your Blessings name them One By one

hahaha! you guys are the GIF generation :)

Love this song! I like the way you played it! I'd love to get back into playing the piano someday! :)

oh you've heard it before? thanks for your encouragement. and do get back to playing the piano! it's therapeutic :)

Yes, I plan to teach my kids piano and I have books and online lessons (which I just did a post about)...I just need to figure out timing! ;) Yes, this is a great hymn we used to sing in church. :) It gets stuck in my head when I try to remind myself that I need to count my blessings instead of looking at all the negative stuff in life. :)
"Count Your Blessings name them one by one. Count your blessings see what God has done. Count your many blessings. Name them one by one. Count your many blessings see what God has done."

yes I saw your post! my friend @maxyong resteemed it! and you've actually blessed another of my friend @stephhchia by being your 700th follower! I'm a music educator myself but the introductory video got me to watch through the whole thing. I'm even considering of signing up for Hoffman Academy just to check them out!

you've got the lyrics nailed down! amen amen and amen! we need to remind ourselves of God's goodness in our lives :)

Hymns are some of my favorite songs. It is sad that most churches these days have moved on to praise songs instead of sticking with solid hymns. :) Nice - I think the course should be pretty fun. So cool that you're a music teacher! You should make some videos and market them online!

I agree that a lot of churches have moved on with the times. Christian music is modernized but there's a strong draw about hymns that's hard to describe. They usually come in 4 parts (Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass), and when you have a chance to sing in a full 4 part hymns, it really blows you away :)

Making videos seem so far-fetched! But I'll keep that in mind as I improve my craft :)

I do love hymns. They really are lovely and usually have a great depth of meaning...as well as the story behind them is usually interesting. A good praise song is also good! :)

Your song, your music literally plays in my head as I wake up in the mornings now. (Far more pleasant than any alarm clock.) That's how much I enjoyed it. That's the impression you made. Do keep posting content. (Also see what you can do with the acoustics. I don't know if there is anything you can control or improve them and yours are already streets ahead of some I've heard. I know videos / music / recordings over the internet are still fairly rough -- but at the same time a miracle over what was possible just a short time ago.)

Anyway, as I was assembling TDWS a few nights ago, your post made its way into my new curation project The Inbox Runneth Over. You can find your post showcased at this link.

Meanwhile, we are looking at ways to boost your ongoing success in Steemit. After some discussion between us last night, @catweasel and I hit on a plan. See that little treasure in your upvote list from ana-maria? That's from us.

That's how we decided to reward the content providers in The Inbox Runneth Over. It more than exhausts our own shared SP trying to keep up with all you guys ... so I recruited some elf and fairy spirit helpers to act on our behalf. We hope you approve. Don't spend it all in one place. Keep playing. I'm waiting. (I hope your wife is feeling better.)

wow! indeed an honor to have made a tiny impact on you. and also treasure the suggestions that you've gave and the encouragement as well! will definitely look into the acoustics.

I've actually checked out The Inbox Runneth Over before reading this reply! awesome things that you all are doing for this community. the reason we're growing is definitely due to the hardwork you've all put in consistently.

I'm so touched by the generosity of both of you, @enchantedspirit and @catweasel

definitely won't be spending it all in one place. most likely will go back to my Steem Power and in turn build the community around me, including The Steem Engine which has been such a support to me. every comment has been so meaningful and the feeling of my work being appreciated far outweighs the financial gains.

p.s. my wife is recovering. getting her to start posting on her own account as well. will definitely promote her stuff on discord.

THE STEEM ENGINE ROCKS!

That was beautiful! :D

thanks! you've heard this song before?
