Holy crap! I have no idea how many times I have heard "The Boxer" but I had NO IDEA that was a bass harmonica... had never even heard of a bass harmonica! I am not sure now, in retrospect, what instrument I thought that was. Seems obvious now. You kind of just blew my mind LOL.
My parents, upon coming out the other side of an extended dalliance with a Christian cult that had forced them to get rid of most trappings of modern life (records included), picked up double CD boxed set of the Concert in the Park and I listened to that thing over and over while practicing singing harmonies. Really grooved on this edition of your 420 to 30, great choices and great write ups. Much love - Carl
To be honest, I always pictured it as a didgeridoo when I was a kid (maybe because of the whole Australia obsessed craze that existed in U.S. media when I was younger around the year 2000) and it wasn't until writing this list until I stopped to think, huh, that's probably not what it is, huh? haha So I looked it up and made the "Sanford & Son" theme song connection as the same sound. (Also a great song.)
Glad to hear Simon & Garfunkel was a part of bringing you guys out of what sounds like a dreary period in your family's lives. Thank you for the compliment and sharing with me!
