in music •  6 years ago

Hey Steemains

I was scrolling through my feed today and decided to hit up the new section to see if I could find any new gems and I came across this post GQOM DAILY 28 08 2018 by @shawnalchemi and I hit play.

I was surprised to find South African Gqom style music on a platform like this but hey that's what Steemit is about.

Unearthing content gems and man did this one get me up and jiving, in fact, I hit the Gwara Gwara a few times to this track. For those of you who don't know what that is, I've included this gif to give you an idea

For illustrative purposes

Gwara Gwara

Don't underestimate the Gwara Gwara, Its infectious, The dance craze has even crossed the shores to the US, you can see Childish Gambino try to copy our flavour.

Some South African hits

The feel-good vibes inspired me to put together a Spofity playlist with some of my favourite South African songs and I thought I'd share it with you all. Have a listen and let me know what your favourite track is. My personal favourites are Emazulwini & Lento, if this track doesn't get me on the dance floor nothing will.

Learn To Gwara Gwara

If you want to learn how to Gwara Gwara I found this instructional video online. Feel free to try it out but don't hurt yourself now, this one is not for everyone.

We South Africans know how to party

If you had a listen to the playlist you'll quickly realise all the tracks are pretty upbeat and all about dancing and is very similiar to Naija tracks our Nigerian fam are putting out, which don't get me wrong, I love me some Naija music but it can't compete with our Kassi flavour.

Not as depressing as it may seem

If you hear anything about our country online or in mainstream media it can probably sound pretty depressing but it ain't all that bad. All we've been through has made us a resilient bunch and we can party through anything. In SA we don't need a much to have a jol (dance/party). play us some tracks and make us a fire to throw some meat on and all will be right with the world.

Have at it
