Kurt Donald Cobain (born in Aberdeen, February 20, 1967 - died in Seattle, April 6, 1994 at the age of 27) is a singer, songwriter and guitarist in Seattle's grunge band Nirvana. With the success of this band, Cobain became a national and international celebrity, a position he weighed heavily on.

In 1991, the rise of Cobain's most famous song, Smells Like Teen Spirit, marked the start of major changes in pop music from popular music in the 1980s such as glam metal, rock arena and dance-pop to grunge and alternative rock.
