#musicdiscovery - Corey Taylor - Heavy Metal!

in music •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Steemians and fellow music lovers!

Today I thought I'd share one of my favorite musicians with you - Corey Taylor.

Corey Taylor is the founding member of rock band Stone Sour, and is more well know as being the lead singer of heavy metal band Slipknot. Corey Taylor is a multi instrumentalist, playing the guitar, drums, bass and piano. Although more known for his metal singing with Slipknot, he has a very wide range of vocal ability which he explores more with Stone Sour.

Corey Taylor has released 5 albums with Slipknot and 6 albums with Stone Sour. Slipknot's last album ‘.5 The Gray Chapter’ was released in 2014 and is a reference to bass player Paul Gray who died of an overdose in 2010.

Stone Sour

Probably the most known song from Stone Sour is the slower ballad style song ‘through the glass’ - it really highlights Cory range and vocal ability.

I LOVE the acoustic version of Song 3 from the latest Stone Sour album Hydrograd:

Slipknot

Now for the heavier stuff from Slipknot! Slipknot burst onto the metal scene in 1999 with their single ‘Wait and bleed’. They offered something new with their live shows - each member wears a jumpsuit and a different mask

Although probably not their most successful album, my favorite is ‘Volume 3 - The Subliminal Verses’. This album has such intensity! Here's my favorite tune ‘The Blister Exists’

Before I go you may (or may not) be aware that Corey Taylor collaborates a lot with different artists, often making live appearances. Here's a song with Dave Grohl ‘from can to can't’ from the sound city soundtrack. This sound brings shivers down my spine - so good!

Thanks @backpackingmonk yeah its slowly gaining traction! 2 of the others got a small Curie upvote ☺☺

How awesome you share a post about Corey Taylor! This man had and has such a big impact to my life! When I was a very young girl I started to listen to Slipknot and later Stone Sour. I used to scream the lyrics of "Wait and Bleed", "Spit it out" and Co. while other girls listened to pop music. I had a rat called maggot due to Slipknot and this band is even the reason I am together with my husband! 11,5 years ago when I was only 15 he wrote me a message in an online chat as we both wrote down our passion for Slipknot in our profiles and he was happy to meet a girl that has the same taste in music. So we fell in love, married and still listen to Slipknot and Stone Sour these days :D
It's so nice you spread Coreys Vibes here on Steemit!

Thank you very much for that! :)

Have a great day and bang your head mate! :)

Awesome story thanks for sharing! I think Stone Sour are under rated they have some brilliant songs. I saw them live a few years back and the sound was brilliant! Saw Slipknot aswell and the sound wasn't even close to as good, but the show was amazing of course! I think I went to the tour before Joey left...

You're very welcome, thank you very much for appreciating and your amazing reply :)
Stone Sour indeed are totally underrated! I can imagine their show was brilliant! So cool you've been there :)
Corey is an AWESOME performer and fantastic musician!
How great you have seen Slipknot live before Joey left. His drumming skills are priceless and he was such a big part of the band.
But I guess since he left and Paul is dead, the whole band changed as there happened a lot, emotionally and in the members lifes. So it is a real treasure you had the chance to see them while they were the original Slipknot! :)

love it !

My friends and I often sing in karaoke Through the glass 🎼🎤

Great song choice for karaoke!

Yes 😃 Corey Taylor, Adele - Hello and Imagine Dragons - Thunder - popular song.

Even though I make and Sell hip hop music online, my roots came from rock music and metal. Slipknot are still one of my all-time favourite bands.

Corey's vocals got much more melodic as they progressed but I like that. Similar to the melodic vocals you'd hear on System of Down record.

I can listen to My Plague, Left Behind, To Vermillion and hear such a delivate balance of metal and harmonic vocals which pleases my heavy metal side and my more radio friendly side.
