Amazing Guitar Virtuosity - "The Entertainer"

"Don't play this piece fast. It is never right to play ragtime fast."
- Scott Joplin -

While working on my Steemit Library,

I've been listening to some assorted YouTube music in the background. Yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to discover an amazing guitar performance.

I heard "The Entertainer" playing.

I've always loved that piece by Scott Joplin, and in fact, years ago, learned to play it as a piano duet when my son was taking piano lessons. I stopped working on my Library to investigate what was playing. It sounded like a guitar.

When I opened the active YouTube window, I was surprised and pleased to discover a gentleman playing "The Entertainer" on guitar.

Richard Smith is an amazing guitarist.

I don't recall ever hearing "The Entertainer" performed before on anything other than a piano. Mr. Smith's performance is as amazing to watch as it is to listen to.

As the old saying goes,

"There's more than one way to skin a cat."

I hope you'll enjoy hearing this cat skinned as much as I have.

That was outstanding! I really enjoyed listening to that.

Hey, glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for letting me know.

The guitar rendition had me longing for more. Beautiful by Richard...a real talent

So glad you enjoyed this too, Empress. Thanks for your visit. :D

The music of the guitar is really lovely, I think it's an angel of the Lord who plays. Receive my affections @creatr

Great find, man! This is pretty good stuff. If you like fingerstyle guitar like this, you should look up some Tommy Emmanuel videos on YouTube. He's the guy sitting to Richard's right getting excited, and he can play that guitar like nobody's business.

I'll check Tommy out, Thanks! ;)

Wow Whats An AMazing Music.

Nicely done and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks @creatr

Hi @creatr nice music, do you know where I can get some material, like, the basics about ragtime? I don't know much about it yet but it's fascinating. Does it have something to do with Django Reinhardt music? Do you know if the man in the video is playing in standard tunning? Thanks for sharing man, sorry about so many questions haha!

Hello, @danniguise,

Thanks for stopping by with your comments and questions.

I can only answer the last question. As well as I can tell from observing, Mr. Smith is using "Dropped D tuning" and is playing the piece in the key of D.

In this tuning method, all but the lowest pitch (physically on top) string are tuned to the standard values of A, D, G, B, and E. Instead of the normal 'E,' the top string is tuned to 'D.'

Although I'm no expert, I am fairly sure that is the case for this recording.

Scott Joplin and his music would be much older than Django Reinhardt, dating back to the 19th century. I don't know enough about Reinhardt, and he may have enjoyed ragtime?

For better answers, I would just suggest combing the internet. Good luck!

And, Welcome to Steemit. :D

Thanks @creatr I appreciate it!
Actually drop D tunning is pretty familiar to me, thanks for the hands up, it will be easier to start to figure out now, I'll be following you for more! See you friend.
