in music •  7 years ago  (edited)

Wamp Wamp week two of my Sunday tunes. Here are 10 Artist that I'm bumpin on my Spotify. Reviews, pictures, videos, and lyrics included. I have some real treasures in this bunch. I'm really excited about this week's choices. Heavy with the female artist this week.I don't know maybe I'm just really emotional this week who knows. I hope you enjoy this week's pick.

Here we go yo, here we go yo
So what so what so what's the scenario

This Swedish idol, both beautiful and talented, is one of the best artists of 2016. If Duffy, Lana Del Rey, and Lauryn Hill had a baby, it would be Snoh Aalegra. With the first full listen of her new EP, Don’t Explain, she’ll become an obsession. The album begins with one of the coolest intros of music history. The first track, “It’s Just a Fever”, gives a vintage and 1940’s black- and- white film sound, with a sweet, feminine voice speaking. “It’s just a fever, fever” Aalegra says. With a bit more dialogue, it then ends with the sweet sound of violins. This orchestra is then incorporated in almost every track of the EP, giving a unique feel to Aalegra’s music. The second track, “In Your River”, immediately displays this artist’s raspy and chill tone. Aalegra’s voice just glides within every second of each song, so in tune with the sexy vibes of the instrumental music. Yes, Aalegra is similar to a female version of John Legend. From listening to the second track of the EP, it was clear that she will even be as successful as Legend. With the easy- going tunes and exceptional showcase of vocals, there is no doubt Aalegra will make a name for herself. The good beats of vocals and the incorporation of both band and orchestra is superb. This EP presents such a sexual vibe that Aalegra’s talking voice is sexy. In “Charleville 9200”, Aalegra somewhat channels her inner- Lana Del Rey with the talking verses and high pitch, but also channels her inner R&B. With the first few seconds of “Don’t Explain”, the listener will immediately get chills. As the dramatic orchestra intros and the chill beat of the drum continues, Aalegra’s vocals are introduced in the most amazing way. The only comment after that track: Sing, girl, sing. “Home” is where this young artist displays her vulnerability stating, “as long as I got you, I’ve got a home”. “Under the Influence” is where Aalegra channels her inner- Duffy and Amy Winehouse. With the rasp and sense of authority in her voice, it is clear who her inspirations are. The outro, “All on Me” consistently continues that sound of 1940’s film, presenting the uniqueness of Aalegra as an artist. To make her even more unique, she chose the album artwork to be comic- book inspired. The chill and sexy vibes say it all. Aalegra is the definition of music’s future. This EP deserves high-praise for being so over- the- top amazing. Highly, highly, highly recommend.-Themarooncafe.com

Two kids in the night, Charleville 9200
This is how it feels to be alive
People walking by, but it's just you and I
I feel your energy right through me
Well darlin' everything with you is like movie
[Chorus: Snoh Aalegra]
Movie (vibe)
Movie (vibe)
[Verse 2: Snoh Aalegra]
The grass is wet and cold
So you put down your coat for us to lay on, (lay on)
I kiss your eyelid and we stay on
Electric mtha-fckin vibez
Boy it's on, it's on
It's not perfect, but it's great
What are we doing in the first place?
It seems to be true that every step with you
Darlin', is like a movie…
[Chorus: Snoh Aalegra]
Movie (vibe)
Movie (vibe)
Movie (vibez)
Movie (vibez)
[Outro: James Fauntleroy]
Girl you know you got special effects
It just feels so real
A tidal wave in my bed
That’s how it feels
My body and my mind
Somebody press rewind
Look where we came from
Gambling so far
Loving you's like Casino
That shit bomb in the car
I knew you were a star
By the way that you glowing
Wherever you go I'm going to go wherever you are
Look how we came up
Left a couple of scars
Loving you like Pacino
You gon love me tomorrow
Girl just get in the car
You already know it don't matter where we go I'm going wherever you are

"Glass Flows" featuring the ever amazing Ravyn Lenae (the notes she hits in this song are heavenly) switches gears and reflects on that one that you should've never given the time of day. The chorus echos, "I think I made you too special…" and all you can remember is the remorse you felt the last time you caught your would-be boo in some unsavorable pictures on Instagram. So far the album has been a daze as we float on the high the production wants to immulate. I guess Smino and the girl, got those Backwoods after all, but the feeling can be compared to more of a "hotbox confessional" so far, rather than an in-depth reflection.-Earmilk.com

Walking light on these glass flows
My tippy's, I'm toe up
You know what, I'm thinking
I think
I think I made you too special
You took me, you shook me, you shh me
When I tried to think about you, babe
Walking past my feet
See, why you never need me?
You was really a vessel
You cut it, It blooded
I bled out, you ran out
It's dead now
[Verse 1: Smino & Rayvn Lenae]
Lately I been thinking 'bout your glow again
Lately I been, lately I been thinking 'bout a go again
Don't you know my diamond soul?
Don't you know my time is gold?
Lately I been drinking, still dehydrated
'Lil chocolate water, Henny got me callin', hello operator
Tell lil' shawty, grab the phone
Fuck around, done been too long
If I had another chance, I'd throw you off my back
If I knew you had a plan, I'd never say attack
Pity, pity, pitty pat, long paragraphs
Make me tisk when you get like that
Fall back, took a trip
Roll the luggage, burnin' pack
Fuck that, feelin' like I need a new thing
[Chorus: Smino & Rayvn Lenae]
Walking light on these glass flows
My tippy's, I'm toe up
You know what, I'm thinking
I think
I think I made you too special
You took me, you shook me, you shh me
When I tried to think about you, babe
Walking past my feet
See, why you never need me?
You was really a vessel
You cut it, It blooded
I bled out, you ran out
It's dead now
[Verse 2: Smino & Rayvn Lenae]
Rest assured, you about to ruin your pedicure
Tippy-toeing this nigga in the Chi
Ca I go with ya, huh?
Feelin' like any nigga in the room can be the guy
Feelin' like every bitch I bone a skeleton of mine
Prolly why I felt insecure that one night out Chi
Ca I go back in time, can I Michael J. Fox?
Prolly call up Lil' Bari and turn Delorean to hotbox
Moon child, lil' shawty cry shootin' stars any time she cry
Cry me a river, I'll teach you how to build a boat
I'm John Cena with visual
You can't see me, can't see me, no
I can't, I can't control myself
(Oh my God, you're in my head)
I can't, I can't control my health
(Oh my God, you're in my bed)
[Chorus: Smino & Rayvn Lenae]
Walking light on these glass flows
My tippy's, I'm toe up
You know what, I'm thinking
I think I think I made you too special
You took me, you shook me, you shh me

The Colombian goddess Kali Uchis delivers a reverie feel in her new visuals for the soulful ballad “Loner.” Her voice is spellbinding and soothing as she embraces her inner solitude. There’s a sense of familiarity and hope when she says, “Like a printed narrative, I know what’s about to happen next, but I keep on going through the motions fulfilling the script.” Surrounded by bright-neon lights of an empty-drive in, the songstress is determined to take a liberal stance. In an interview with Dazed, the singer disclosed, “I wanted this music video to portray a strong sense of being very grown, content alone and feeling yourself. I was inspired by mermaids, call-girls, the actress Mia Farrow, the film Scarface and the director Quentin Tarantino.” Watch the hypnotic video to “Loner” above and leave your comments on the comment section below.-** Astrid Sarmiento-artsymagazine.com**

I don't want to be your cigarette
I don't want to be your ashtray
I don't want to be your door mat
Don't want to be ignored
All o' sudden you're not into me
And maybe it's not deliberate
And I know you never asked me
I just gotta put it out there
I don't put myself out there
Usually I stay tucked away
Cause I was a loner until I met you
And I let you in after all the persuasion
Mind games, manipulations
[Hook:]
That's why I'd rather be a loner
Yeah I'd rather be alone
I don't even want to know ya
I don't want to be known
Cause I'd rather be a loner
I'd much rather be alone
Baby it was nice to know ya
Packing up and leaving home
No I don't want to be your cigarette
Use me up then toss me, step on me
I don't want to be an option
Avoidin' interaction cause
I just want to get away
And maybe you got a full plate
Know I'm cookin' something better
But if you don't want me now
No boy I don't want you later
Don't try to come and eat with me
Cause I was a loner until I met you
And I let you in after all the persuasion
Headaches and allegations

An Essex-born, karate-loving (she’s a triple world champion in shotokan), former West End musical child star (she was in Whistle Down the Wind with Jessie J when she was 12) who’s progressed to pop’s waiting list thanks to two years of touring the world with dance collective Rudimental (she also appears on their forthcoming second album, We the Generation). In fact, Anne-Marie’s got form when it comes to collaborations with dance producers, having previously worked with Magnetic Man, Gorgon City and Raized By Wolves. A shot at a solo career in 2013 was curtailed in order to give her time to develop, despite the breezy demo Summer Girl garnering a fan in Ed Sheeran.-Theguardian.com

I don't feel like you know me anymore
Like I don't know me anymore, yeah
Say, where's that girl we knew before
Cause we don't see her anymore, yeah yeah
Used to get lost in conversation
But it seems we've hit a nerve
Cause I've been 'round the world
Baby girl don't think of it like that
I'm on the road, no telephone, no time to call you back
Oh, you pushed my buttons too far lately
Take that chip off your shoulder maybe, yeah
I'll wait forever just to get you alone together
You're my hope from home
I swear that I'm sincere, yeah
Can't land on
You know that I'll wait forever just to get you alone together
You're my hope from home
I swear that I'm sincere, yeah
I can't land on
You are my Gemini
You are my Gemini
You are my Gemini
You are my Gemini
I ain't been sleeping much at all
Too many meetings to recall
And I've been swept up by a storm
But didn't feel the calm at all, yeah yeah
And now I'm lost in conversation
But I'm not being heard, uh uh uh
Cause I've been around the world
Baby girl, don't think of it like that
I'm on the road, no telephone, no time to call you back
Oh, you pushed my buttons too far lately
Take that chip off your shoulder maybe
I'll wait forever just to get you alone together
You're my hope from home
I swear that I'm sincere, yeah
I can't land on
You know that I'll wait forever just to get you alone together
You're my hope from home
I swear that I'm sincere, yeah
I can't land on
You are my Gemini
You are my Gemini
You are my Gemini
You are my Gemini

Sophie Meiers immerses listeners in a cascade of jazzy and passionate tracks. The singer/songwriter continues to refine her silky sound with each release, garnering over half a million total streams on SoundCloud over the past year or so. Alongside a few compilations including Songs To Smoke Cigs To and Enter The Void, Sophie has been particularly successful with the Matisse-produced “Wake Up“, a proper exhibition of her vocal talents. One of the latest additions to her discography recruits producer Gin$eng for a sultry collab titled “Wet Socks”. The slow-burning tune paints a stormy night by the window sill, expanding upon an apt synth sample from Mndsgn‘s fan favorite, “Camelblues“. As she explores her roller coaster experience with love, Sophie crafts a testament to the emotional tug-of-war when someone special fades from our lives. Sophie also offered her insight via email: I was thinking about someone who used to love me. At the time that I fell for this person, I was in a really bad place. I was slipping into depression, I had given up on mostly everything. This person was so full of light and love. He made me feel okay, but I know he was being irrational, blinded by lust, or something. Maybe he saw a broken part of himself in me. Maybe he was just lonely, and I was something to make himself feel less empty. Maybe he cared for a while but then gave up, and still held on in fear of hurting me when I was in such a fragile state. After that night, we grew distant. He stopped talking to me, I guess I easily faded from his memory. A lot of times, when I write songs about failed relationships, I can be extremely passive aggressive and spiteful. This song isn’t meant to be like that at all. I’m not trying to lash out, I’m genuinely acknowledging that it’s impossible to love me, and that I don’t blame him for escaping the metaphorical storm of my existence. The whole song is about me reflecting on how much it hurt to let this person go, but being painfully aware of exactly why he couldn’t stay. The whole metaphor of this song is the bad weather; the imagery in the beginning about running in a thunderstorm, the little bits of comfort I found in the eye of the hurricane, the burden and pain and scars that I created on this person, and me genuinely hoping that he is in a lovelier place. He deserves more. A boy as beautiful as him should always feel sunshine kissing his skin.-Nesthq.com

I've got wet socks
I've been running
In a fucked up storm
You struck me down like
You were lightning
You held me , while i was crying
So how did you expect me
To forget
That you
Pushed my messy hair
Out of my snotty face and kissed me
Whispered it would be okay
And then you left me
Like i was some sort of burden
On your shoulders
The sky will never show
I watched the ambers while they smoldered
Left over from the fire
Glowing from your
Secret desires
To
Somehow be brighter
I hope your chest is lighter
Without me
I hope the lack of goodbyes
Was better for you
Even though i miss the fuck out of you
I'll leave u alone
Cause i know u hate the clouds
Don't
Let me get you now
Ignore this letter
I've got wet socks
I've been running
In a fucked up storm
You struck me down
Like you were lightning
You held me
While i was crying

Now Smith is back with another new track, “A Prince”, which draws on a different kind of royal fanfare – it turns on a sample of Henry Purcell’s “A Prince of Glorious Race Descended”, written for the Duke of Gloucester’s sixth birthday in 1695. Pitched down and exquisitely paired with Smith’s smoky, jazz-tinged vocals (with a guest verse from Maverick Sabre), it sounds like something Danger Mouse might have cooked up if he’d ever got round to working with Amy Winehouse. For the video, Smith asked Royal College of Art grad Yao Xiang to come up with an animation to fit this moody portrait of a fairy tale turned sour. Six months later, she came up with this strangely beautiful, penguin-inspired odyssey.-Dazeddigital.com

Why am I gonna apologize?
What have I even done?
Why you acting like you lost the crown
If you were never wearing one?
Falling ever deeper, dealing cards now
Now you can't recognize yourself on the deck
I thought I was your queen of hearts
But all the aces stole the check
A prince, a prince
A glorious game
A prince, a prince
Checkmate 'til you stole me away
Cursing words, am I a pauper now?
Even though all my shoes do fit
Won't even let me leave the house past 12
I ain't no fairytale chick
Happy endings cloud your head now
You have put your expectations too high
Sit on the bed, tears running down our eyes
Once upon a time, I wonder why
A prince, a prince
A glorious game
A prince, a prince
Checkmate 'til you stole me away
[Maverick Sabre:]
Darling hold on a second
You know that your eyes and your smile are a weapon
Now come here, why won't you just listen?
You tell me I'm hurting your arm with my grip
See now trust me, but never trust women
Yeah they're perfect, I'm at home stressed
With this skunk spliff
When I know that you're out on the road being faithless
Does it make sense?
And my insecurities don't pay rent
But they're living with me
And this is a disease
We live in a man's world so what you expect me to be?
Now, now, now
Whether it's the shit sex or this limp dick
My reflection keeps telling me sick things
You know that I'm ugly
I hope that you want me, I'll make sure you love me
[Jorja Smith:]
A prince, a prince
A glorious game
A prince, a prince
Checkmate 'til you stole me away
[Maverick Sabre:]
No I've never been a prince, no, no
And I tried to be a king, oh Lord
Said I've never been a prince, no, no
And I tried to be a king, but I let you down, my queen
Oh you let me down, my king

Single “Fuck With Myself” is indicative. The conceit, your basic tale of fuck-the-haters-I’ve-got-self-love-but-ooh-what-kind? (in an interview with Zane Lowe, Banks boasted that it had “so many meanings,” which is weird because the slang has one or two) is so anodyne in 2016 that True Grit kid Hailee Steinfeld's done it with mild bowdlerization. Producer Al Shux (“Drowning,” “Empire State of Mind,” “Wicked Love”) constructs a skeleton of an R&Bass song, the sort of half-there production that’s minimalist in a way that suggests they avoided fleshing out the details. Where Banks might have brought menace to the void, she substitutes vocal gimmicks: stage whispers, clipped runs or, bizarrely, a gulped cadence that suggests she’s either choking through a straw or greeting an approaching cat.-**Pitchfork.com

I got two diamonds and a feather
Gimme three reasons why we ain’t together
I push my body through the floor like
Cause I fuck with myself more than anybody else
You’re on the corner waiting for my love
I put two walls behind you just to lean on
You’re gonna need em cuz I stood you up
Cause I fuck with myself more than anybody else
Cuz I fuck with myself more than anybody else
It's all love
I used to care what you think about me
It's all love
Cause my love so good
So I fuck with myself more than anybody else
I caught you fishing through the fodder
This whole relationship is under water
You’re facing ages in your third strike
Cause I fuck with myself more than anybody else
Cause I fuck with myself more than anybody else
It's all love
I used to care what you think about me
It's all love
Cause my love so good
So I fuck with myself more than anybody else
I used to have a nickel for what you say, baby
Your words would burn me in the third degree
Now baby look what it’s come to
Cause my love is the one
My love is the one
So I fuck with myself more than anybody else
It's all love
I used to care what you think about me
It's all love
Cause my love so good
So I fuck with myself more than anybody else

Amindi K. Fro$t seemingly came out of nowhere, recently moving from relative obscurity to having thousands of listeners on Spotify. The Los Angeles–based 17-year-old’s success makes perfect sense as soon as you listen to her tunes. Fro$t’s songs are warm and laid-back, conjuring feelings of sun-soaked parking lot concrete and the blissful laziness of early summer-Rookiemag.com

& we keep talking
& we keep talking
& we keep talking
But they still don't know
Cause we talk too low
& we keep walking
& we keep walking
& we keep walking
But we walk too slow
So where do we go?
Bout to get heavy, real heavy, like wet jeans
We all have our own set dreams
Nobody knows what the heck we
Mean
Whenever we speak
Heavy, real heavy, like wet jeans
We all have our own set dreams
Nobody knows what the heck we
Mean
Whenever we speak
So we keep talking
& we keep talking
& we keep talking
But they still don't know
Cause we talk too low
& we keep walking
& we keep walking
& we keep walking
But we walk too slow
So where do we go?
You said you're ready, real ready, so let me
Show you why i would be the best thing
You'd ever have, so just text me
We, we don't need to speak
Ready, real ready, so let me
Show you why i would be the best thing
You'd ever have, so just text me
We, we don't need to speak
Yet you keep talking
& you keep talking
& you keep talking
But it's all for show

Spanning just seven years, yet perfectly encapsulating the Ink Spots' entire recording career, MCA's 15-track Greatest Hits has everything the curious require to understand what made this quartet so influential for the thousands of R&B vocal groups to come, from the Ravens to Boyz II Men: close harmonies, sparkling romantic monologues, and the interplay of high tenor Bill Kenny and deep bass Orville "Hoppy" Jones. In residence are all of the biggest hits -- "If I Didn't Care," "When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano," "We Three (My Echo, My Shadow and Me)," "Java Jive," and "The Gypsy" -- though there is one notable exclusion: the double-sided chart-topper "I'm Making Believe" b/w "Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall," from the movie Sweet & Lowdown. Everything else here is pure gold.-Allmusic.com

I could make you care if only you'd let me,
I could make you care, you'd never forget me,
I can't resist, I'd be a fool to try,
I know if once we kissed, I could kiss my heart goodbye.
I knew this was love the moment I found you,
So I planned my life, it's built all around you,
Give me this chance, darling if you only would,
I could make you care, I know I could.
