And now.... for the continuation of the two-part Demon Hunter album review!
As I'm sure most of you can conclude from the name of this particular album, it is not going to be quite as heavy, or "metal", as it's predecessor, "War". But I still believe it is an integral and essential part to this review. For even if it does not sound so at times, the tracks I will be revealing in this post are literally the same exact band. Which I'm confident will impress you, as they seem to be a band that can wear many masks in regard to their songwriting style and performance alike.
The thing about Ryan Clark, the vocalist and main songwriter, is that he does not allow the limitations and confines of specific metal genres define how he writes his music. After all, he has had a reputation for delving into many different projects of artistic ability outside of Demon Hunter, such as his graphic design company Invisible Creature, which has been responsible for the artwork for the last couple or so Demon Hunter records. Not to mention the electronica-esque side project NYVES, which he worked with alongside Randy Torres, former guitarist for the band Project 86. If that alone doesn't boast open-minded and varietous creativity, I don't know what does!!!!
Which brings us to "Peace"....
Although this album in particular is much lighter, softer and more melodic in nature of sound, it does still display a level of intensity that could rival many other prominent albums of its soundalike. The fact that Demon Hunter can be both a rock AND heavy metal band all in one without losing so much as a fraction of their fanbase really speaks true to their level of committment and dedication TO their fanbase. Now, the REALLY interesting thing about this particular album is that when you listen hard enough, you can hear within it some really recognizable writing and playing styles that are reminiscent of other bands, particularly in the euro-rock and euro-metal field. Oddly enough, as can be found on their fan club website, "The Blessed Resistance" (of which I am a proud member), Ryan Clark has been quoted as having major rock songwriting influence from the Finnish goth rock band HIM. Weird, right? Well, it really pulls off and furthermore PAYS off, because they do it very well! And now, without another moment of hesitation or suspense, I present to you my 5 favorite tracks from "Peace".... Enjoy!
More Than Bones
Loneliness
Peace
When the Devil Come
Recuse Myself
