How i got my start in music and working in Night Clubs

I have been a DJ for about 6 years now and there is a lot of good and very shady things that happen once you start working in the industry of music and making music. I got my interest in being a Disc Jockey from a friend of mine that i bartend with at spinnaker beach club, her boyfriend Chad was the head DJ at Club La Vela next door. I began to hang around other DJs and lighting and sound techs, learning the ins and outs of keeping a night club operating. As soon as i was hired at La Vela i was thrown to the wolves. Spring Break was 3 weeks out, we had so many speakers to get repaired and rebuilt for the 8 different rooms within the club plus a $1.8 Million Dollar BASSBOSS system we had to install for our pool side stage to get ready for the season. Spring break is massive here, ill work about 120 hours a week for 6 weeks. so from 9am-4pm i do repairs and tech work and from 7pm-4am i would DJ in the underground... 7 days a week. Being im a club that has a max capacity of 4800 people is a very unique experience. about midnight my room would be slammed with about 400 people just going nuts to trap and deep house. ladies, drunk frat dudes, celebrities and just all around madness.

My first show that i setup for was Wakka Flakka, im talking 3,000 college students on the pool deck just going insane for this guy.(btw wakka was cool as fuck) that was an eye opening experience on how everyday was going to be for the next 6 weeks. we had Bone Thugs N Harmony, Far East Movement, Slander, Grandtheft, Cash Cash, Borgore, Pegboard Nerds, Caked up, Lil Jon, T-Pain, The Chainsmokers, Borgeous and Juicy J all coming in to throw down. Days were gonna be long but satisfying. Most of the artist were cool down to earth guys...most. Juicy J was Kind of a dick and got way to drunk. Borgeous was a Huge Asshole and thought he was gods gift to music. but like i said most were cool.

There was one experience that i will always treasure, i was just starting in the underground and it was maybe my 4th night DJing for a crowd...ever. i was going through my Trap Crate and making those subs hit so hard i was tripping the Amp Rack in the rock arena that was a floor above me. I had maybe half the room full and i heard my door to the booth open but i was mixing so i didnt look back at first and just figured it was some college kids wanting to hang in the booth, which i didnt mind most of the time. after about 2 mins i turned my monitors down and looked back and holy shit it was Derek Andersen and Scott Land of SLANDER!!!!!!!!!!!!! they got to PCB the night before their show and decided to hangout at the club that night. really cool guys and very humble and had nothing but nice things to say. that was a common thing during Spring Break. this is just a few of the things that got me hooked into being a club DJ... Stay tuned for more later.
