Bhupen Hazarika is one of the most favourite of Bengali singers. His renderings of "বিস্তীর্ণ দুপারের অসংখ্য মানুষের হাহাকার শুনে" inspired a million to fight the opression.

Until recently I was not aware of a great song by Paul Robeson. "The Old man river" from a movie of 1936. The tune of both songs are quite similar. I have then found out that Bhupen Hazarika was inspired by that particular song.
