I’ve decided to post each week about an awesome guitar teacher to help you play at your best.
Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you can always learn new, cool things to add to your repertoire. Over the past couple years, I’ve been slowly but surely becoming more confident on the electric guitar, largely due to many, many hours of practice, and thanks to a few very good guitar teachers I’ve found on youtube who provide lessons for free.
This week's Awesome Guitar Teacher is Mr. Pebber Brown. Hard-core, in-your-face, brilliant, Pebber Brown.
If you’ve ever seen the movie “Whiplash”, and saw how Miles Teller (the student drummer), had his ass handed to him by J. K. Simmons (his music instructor), you’ll get a feel for how Pebber Brown operates. He's more a Drill Instructor than a teacher. If the U.S. Marines gave guitar lessons, they'd contract Pebber to deliver them.
Pebber offers his students encouragement through suggestions like “You suck, you suck, you suck, you suck, you guys all suck," and “Don’t send me your gig videos because you all suck”, and "Dude you're blowin' it, you're fuckin' up!"
While this might sound harsh, once you get to know his teaching style, you’ll realise that what he’s trying to do is help you to be a great guitarist, or just a less crap one; and if you’re not interested in getting better, he doesn’t care what you think about him. And even if you’re really, really good already, he still doesn’t care what you think about him. It’ part of his charm. He only cares about making you better, because you probably currently suck.
Where Pebber excels, is in encouraging you to “Practice your ass off man!” You can chose to spend 10 hours a day practicing, or just 30 minutes, but every time you watch a Pebber video, you’ll get better at playing guitar. He’ll teach you how to hold your pick, practice a shit-ton of scales, arpeggios, licks and everything technical in-between.
He’s one of those hard-core types that will never blow smoke up your ass, or compliment anything you do, but he will help you play better guitar.
To see a little of Pebber’s teaching style, check out this short (1hr 38min) Daily Practice - Module 1 - Part 1 on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sdoz16LRz9Q or look through his channel for other content that might interest you more.
Bottom line: Pebber keeps it real, and he’s a great teacher, if you’re ready to level-up and learn some techniques, and practice your ass off. You don’t even need to know basic chords to benefit from Pebber’s lessons, because he’ll break you down and build you back up from nothing. (And believe me, you are nothing, according to Pebber).
He ain't your partner. He ain't your neighbour, your brother, or your friend. He's your guitar teacher.
He'll take you from frozen solid, to cold, to cool, to warm and if you stick at it for 10-20 years, you might even get hot. He has a ton of free stuff on his site here too http://www.pbguitarstudio.com

Do yourself a favour and check him out....or don't. He doesn't really care :) And keep on sucking...., playing :)
I’m out.
