CD of the Week!
Happy New Weekend! It’s Friday night where we are and that means it’s time to enjoy some tunes!
This week we’re traveling back in time to 1989! ‘The Other Side Of The Mirror’ by the beautiful Stevie Nicks had to be one of our CD picks. Stevie’s unique vocal style is recognisable in an instant and this album shows off the wide range of her vocals. The album features pop anthems and ballads with an electronic/synth vibe and these instrumental effects add a mysterious quality to the songs as well as a strong beat that can be pin pointed in all the songs. ‘Rooms On Fire’ kicks off the record with an anthem that starts with a focus on vocals but then starts to build as more instruments come into the picture, eventually forming an upbeat chorus that’s a real toe tapper.
‘Long Way To Go’ takes on a rock n roll sound, showing off Stevie’s sassier side through vocals that are hiding a mild growl behind them. The strong percussive beat also adds to the roughness of the tune, although Stevie is able to add in some delicate softness through a change in her vocal style. This adds contrast to the song which emphasises the emotion of the piece.
‘Cry Wolf’ in contrast takes on the form of a ballad, with a softer and slower beat. Again this shows how multitalented Stevie is. No matter what style or genre she sings, Stevie adds her own magic to a song.
A timeless album which we highly recommend!
