This Day in Rock Music History: 13 Jun - Lightning Strikes Twice

1998, 20 years ago today, lightning struck twice at Washington DC's RFK Stadium during the Tibetan Freedom Concert. 14 people required medical treatment due to the electrical storm, one, 25-year old Lysa Selfon, a law student at George Washington University, sustained serious internal, external, and memory injuries. The double-lightning strike occured around 3:30pm, almost 4 hours into the show, as Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters began their set. The show was immediately stopped, and at 5pm, cancelled along with the remaining acts-- Tracy Chapman, Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R.E.M., Beck and Radiohead. Several were rescheduled for the following day.
