This ought to be the measuring stick for a debut album from this point moving forward.
It's truly remarkable that this is Hussle's debut. The man has been making music for over a decade now. Those not familiar with he's work need to recognize that he's a real MC. This album should also be an inspiration to artists who are stressed out, Nipsey is 32 and this is he's debut.
This album ticks so many boxes in terms of attaining "classic" status. Then again what makes a classic these days. I might have only heard it twice as of this writing, but it's a classic in my book. You take away the two bonus tracks and this album clocks in at under an hour. That's always a positive.
The LA lyricist sticks to what brought him to the dance, he's lyrical ability. He's one of the few artists that I've heard not relying on catchy hooks or radio friendly sounding music. He's raw brutality is kept constant throughout the album, painting a vivid picture of he's come-up and lifestyle in being a gangbanger.
The album is kept short on features and they're also nearly spaced out so that you actually hear Nipsey carry the album. The features also don't overshadow or outbox Nipsey on the album; then again this is Nipsey Hussle we're talking about. The album carries that genuine west coast feel to it from the onset and throughout. That's sure to please the core fans who have stuck with Nipsey since day one.
I'm going to end off by keeping it 8 more than 92. This album is a classic, fight me.
