Johnny Hartman (vocals), John Coltrane (tenor sax), McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums). From the album John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman (1963).
In the fall things are more sad, it invites us to reflect. The temperature begins to decrease, the leaves of the trees change color and fall, the day lasts less and less and there is a tendency towards melancholy. Autumn is one of the four seasons of the year, that of harvests and ripening. Start with the autumn equinox and end with the winter solstice. In autumn the animals decrease their activity and we also reduce our external activities. A serenade is a music performed on the street during the night to celebrate a person.
Tyner starts with a melody that lifts the mood. Then Hartman enters with his resounding voice telling that in the autumn there is a sweet music among the trees. Autumn brings back beautiful memories and the leaves fall like tears. The stars shine in the sky with greater intensity until the month of October arrives. And the years come and go, since time cannot wither when you hear that beautiful autumn serenade. Coltrane enters playing the same song giving it his personal touch and saying that something similar happens to him. Hartman returns, emphasizing on that beautiful autumn serenade accompanied by Coltrane.
