Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums). Extraído del álbum Tenor Madness (1956).
Larry Clinton wrote the lyrics for this popular song and a recording of his band with singer Bea Wain was a hit. Sometimes I daydream and my imagination goes off. In my reverie is hidden our secret love.
Only a poor miserable fool who hasn’t learned what romance is can allow you to be so cruel to me. My dreams are meaningless if my life is not linked constantly to yours. Please, love me in my reverie without formality, since this love is without a doubt to be for me.
This theme has an obviously romantic melody played delicately by Rollins in an exquisite way, describing how a man feels about a woman. His solo is settled down, but sometimes adds complex phrases, as if he were having a conversation with someone else, like a declaration of love. Then Garland enters with a calm and smooth discourse full also of allusions to a love encounter, although from time to time he introduces faster sentences. Then Chambers appears playing a solo based on solid and uniform notes perfectly put together. At the end, Rollins comes in abounding in the narration of the events and ending the theme.
