A reason to use Winamp again? Geisswerks Milkdrop 2 visualizer

in music •  6 years ago  (edited)

Here's a video of the Milkdrop 2 visualizer, which is a pretty cool music visualizer that came with later versions of Winamp. The Geisswerks website (link below) has a link to download a version of Winamp that includes it. As an alternative, you can also get it to work in foobar2000 with a workaround (details further below).

The audio is a track entitled "Intermittence I" from the Skin Contact album Antitrust: https://skincontact.bandcamp.com/album/antitrust

Geisswerks website: http://www.geisswerks.com/milkdrop/

Using Milkdrop 2 in foobar2000:

Download the Milkdrop 2 package available in this forum thread: https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,59388.msg914256.html#msg914256

Unzip the "winamp" folder with directory structure (location unimportant).

Download and install the Shpeck component for foobar2000: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_vis_shpeck

Point Shpeck to the "winamp" folder with the Milkdrop 2 package you just downloaded.

Milkdrop 2 should now be available as a visualization option under the appropriate item in the "View" menu. It can be configured in Preferences.
