5 Things that are Awesome About Being in a Band

in music •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello everybody,

This is our first post and we'd like to keep it simple ((stupid)K.I.S.S). Our band's name is Full Dead, consisting of 5 members; 1 Vocalist (Colby), 2 Guitars(Ted, Justin), 1 Bass (Peter) and Drums (Wedge). We play "Metal". More specifically, "Apocalyptic Space Metal" or, as some would put it, "Sci-fi Metal". We have a website that everyone can check out at (https://www.fulldeadband.com/) and download a few free tunes off of our upcoming album. That being said, we think it'd be a cool idea to share why we like being in a band as much as we do besides the obvious; Being a ROCKSTAR~! 'Cause let's be honest who doesn't want to be a Rock Star, haha.

Reason NUMERO UNO! To write your own music.

Writing your own music is such an awesome feeling and experience. Especially when you finally get that sound that has been rattling around in your head out of your head. By our standards, writing music is a therapeutic obsession. Therapeutic in a way that it helps to release emotions that otherwise might be bottled up or bogging you down. Obsessive like having an itch that won't go away until you scratch it or like trying to finish a 10000 piece puzzle. Writing music has clear cut benefits for people, mainly on the cognitive functionality side of things. Such as improved brain connectivity between left and right hemispheres, a bigger, better memory, upgraded motor skills, etc. The list continues but all in all musical composition is nothing but AWESOME!

Reason numberrrrr TWO! The power of friendship.

"The Power of Friendship". 'Nuff said, am I right? Just kidding! It honestly surprises me every time at the end of a gig how many cool people want to meet us, like us, share us and support us. The music scene can be shady at times but one thing holds true; THE FANS!! We've made countless new friends, contacts, and associates by being a part of the music scene. Not to mention there's nothing quite like getting together with a bunch of buddies to jam your favorite tunes.

Reason number Tree (hand me that lighter)! Travel!

Now let's be real. Travelling isn't for everybody. It can be a cruel endurance test of the mind, body and soul that WILL make or break you as a person! Between budgeting, the occasional break down and farts in an enclosed space. Friendships will be put to the metaphorical grindstone. It's not all bad though as long as you have the power of friendship (see previous point). Travelling is what it's meant to be; An ADVENTURE! If you're with your friends or people who share the same goals than you're bound to have a blast, regardless. Seeing new sights, living new experiences, meeting new people, going places you never thought you'd be are all part of the adventure and are well worth it.

Reason Fore-skin... ew? Be creative!

If you join a band expect to have to be a little creative, haha. From things like writing music and finding places to play it, to creating a product and identity, to business strategies and marketing, etc. There's a huge spectrum and you will have become the Macgyver of music and learn how to think outside the box. Being creative is fun and always makes out for some good discussions and flow of ideas as well as a good time.

Last but not least Five ALIVE. Performing Music!

I already spoke about how cool it is to write your own tunes but playing them for other people is a different experience entirely. Getting up on that stage and giving it all you've got for people you don't know is humbling and empowering. We don't know how people will react or even if anyone will like it. That doesn't matter though, because when we come off that stage there is a burning sensation of accomplishment and a hunger for more. Music has the power to bring people together, and, if nothing else, it is this spirit of coming together to share good times that we as a band strive to promote.

In conclusion, do what you love, and have fun in the process and there will be no limit on the horizon. Maybe some hurdles along the way but if life was a straight line it'd be BORING, hahaha. Thanks for your precious time.

-Full Dead, Justin.
