Seymour Duncan Parallel Axis Distortion is awesome for all things metal. It's recommended for tremolo-equipped guitars but I find it's also good for light weight guitars with a fixed bridge.
Other than cutting some high end on leads, I didn't apply any EQ on my distorted tone. Some compression added on a master channel.
