Overview of the whole song.

This song is amongst the next
set of tracks I'll put online as EP 4, all in the same vein as the previous 3 EPs, IDM/Ambient sort of stuff. I've ben having a lot of fun writing tracks like these, EP 3 and 4 are mostly short little tracks, which I like. Kind of like a punk album, but through an electronic format hehe. This song is also kinda interesting in that each section is 5 measures of 4/4, which gives us a whole extra measure before resolving; this has a cool feel, nice little trick to make a 4/4 beat more unique. Anyway, let's get into this song!

The song begins with Track 2,
which plays the main progression, which both Tracks 1 and 3 will mirror. It plays 2 measures of C#, 2 of B, and 1 of the tritone, G natural. We're gonna be in C# minor, so the first 4 measures sound normal, but the measure of the tritone makes it a lot darker. Track 3 is the next to come in, same progression, but 2 octaves down. Also some heavy phasey stuff on this track, just adds some more layers to the track. Track 1 does play the same progression as 2, but the instrument has some extra overtones and weird scifi sort of sounds going in, so it definitely changes things up when it comes in.
Track 4 as described below.

Next is Track 4,
which is very obvious when it comes in. It is the beepy/wooshy sound that adds a percussive element, and provides a harmony to the main progression. It plays C#, D# and E natural, over the C#, B#, and G of the main progression. The screenshot above is of Track 4. Next is Track 5, which only is used to build up into tracks 6 and 7. You can hear it slowly swell upwards right until 6 and 7 come in. Track 4 also changes at that point; an overdrive is added, distorting it and making it louder, which really accents that this the peak of the crescendo.

Track 6 is the 1/4 note melody
that comes in after the crescendo. It's a "lapharp" synth, although it sort of sounds like a broken, old piano, which I like a lot. It plays a melody that ascends and descends through the minor scale essentially. I have attached a screenshot below so you can follow along with it, as it would be too wordy typing out the melody here hehe.
Track 6, described above.

Last but not least, we have
Track 7 which is sort of the "drum" track. It's a bunch of strange IDM/bleepy-bloopy digital sort of sounds, and basically just plays a continuous 1/8 note progression. You can hear it in the track better than I can describe it here, there are like 15 different tones I used in it. I like how it worked out though, just added a little more to the climax of the track, and has a nice delay/fade out when everything ends.
Hope you enjoy the song, and have learned something from the walkthrough! I'll share EP 4 when I have all the tracks uploaded to my Bandcamp. In the meantime, check out the other 3 in the links below!
