Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action
Flamin' Groovies are a group I first heard
from an Instagram video from At the Drive-In/The Mars Volta singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, where he was using it as background music while drawing. I really liked what I heard, and had to Shazam it, haha, discovering it was from these guys. Somehow, I had never heard of them before, though I later discovered a lot of my favorite musicians cited them as a great group. The group was first formed in 1965, with Roy Loney and Cyril Jordan heading the group. After their first 3 albums, Loney was replaced by Chris Wilson, and the band's sound began to shift towards powerpop, which was coming to popularity in the early/mid '70s. The band existed in various forms from it's formation until 1991 (which is pretty impressive), and had periods of success with certain singles, though they never became as big as some of their contemporaries in the powerpop world. This song is the title track from the band's 1976 album Shake Some Action, and is the track I heard that got me excited to find the group. It's SUCH a solid, catchy rock and roll tune, with great guitar and some of the coolest harmony lines ever, that you just can't help but sing along with.
