This was a song I wrote

MANY moons ago (no pun intended), probably 2003-ish, and then I recorded it in 2004. I was still in High School at that point, and didn't have access to really any DAW's/nice amps/microphones, so this was all done in through Garageband using a drum beat that I did in Fruity Loops. Since there are changes in the BPM throughout, I didn't get to play with a click, as you couldn't change meters/BPM mid-song in the old Garageband, so I did the best I could, haha.

Upon listening to this song again,

I found it kind of interesting how few sections actually repeat. The initial Verse repeats 2x, although the lead guitar part changes over that, but essentially every other part is unique and only happens once. The break is also interesting, it was my first attempt at utilizing any electric drum kit sounds, along with some synthy stuff behind the guitars. It's a little out of place after re-listening to it, but I still like it, and it's funny to think back on how much work it took to just get a simple little break, which nowadays would take me all of 10 minutes, haha.

The end of the song is relatively

simple, but there is a cool little move, going from F#min, to Dmaj, then to a C#/F (which feels like a sharp 7), with a simple lead part of it. I was listening to A LOT of Thrice (their first 2 albums) at the time, and that definitely shows up a lot throughout the song, along with big barre chords which were definitely from me listening to AFI's The Art of Drowning a lot around this time.

I hope you enjoy today's throwback tune! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
