This is a silly little thing

I did a few nights ago, thought it would be fun to share a song with you guys that was never really intended to be heard, and was kind of a joke in the end, haha. I wanted to use the drum kit in this track and write something kind of tropical, but I really didn't like what I wound up writing around it (this song). Every musician has written LOADS of songs that they don't like, so I figured it would be kinda interesting to discuss the theory and ideas behind a song I would never have shared otherwise. Gives a little insight into how fickle art can be.

Listen to TROPICKLE here.

I started with the drum kit,

which has some bongos, congas, a vibraslap, a triangle, some other weird little percussion hits, chimes etc. Basically random percussion kit. The beat I wrote (which is the one in this song) wound up sounding kind of tropical, so I wanted to write some kind of beachy/surfy/tropical song around it, but wound up writing a goofy cartoon song haha.

Track 2 is just a

super bright piano, and really just plays 4 chords, Cmaj7, Cmin7, Gsus4, and Gmajor. Super simple, I was hoping to build up a song around it to achieve tropical-ness, but it didn't work out haha. Next track is 3, which essentially the end of the bass line. I used a different tone here from the main bass (Track 4) to try and make it interesting, not sure I succeeded haha. Track 3 just plays the same filler, C, D, F, G, F and G each time through.

Listen to TROPICKLE here.

Track 4 is the main bassline,

which just arpeggiates the chords the piano part is playing. This too was a failure to reach supreme levels of tropicality, kind of just made the whole thing sound cheesy and childlike. Which I guess could be good in a different setting, but in this case, didn't work out so well. I used a bowed stand up bass tone, which probably also didn't fit. Kind of funny sounding though.

The last instrument that

is actually audible is Track 5, which is some weird Ableton instrument that combines a chimey bell thing with some spacey weird stuff. It is playing the same chords as Track 2's piano, staccato, but with the low C holding out for the whole time until the final Gmaj. At this point, I realized how goofy and fail this song was, so this was the straw that broke the camel's back. On purpose in this case. Track 6 was gonna be a filler track, but I basically gave up at this point. I probably will reuse the drums one day and actually write a tropical song, but I figured you guys might enjoy seeing this fail lol.

Well, I hope you enjoyed hearing/reading about a song fail. While I do like to write thought-out, "artistic" songs, sometimes it's fun to just look back and the random/silly stuff you've done in the past and laugh along with everyone else. Thanks for checking it out, more legit songs to follow lol. If this is your first time reading my posts, I promise, they are (slightly) better than this usually. Steem On, even through the fails!
