I'm a big fan of strange and wonderful music instruments. The sounds they make are unexpected and open a new world of musical compositions, ideas and combinations. In fact you can make music from almost any object, your imagination is the limit. Today I present to you Yaybahar, an electric-free, totally acoustic instrument designed by Görkem Şen. The vibrations from the strings are transmitted via the coiled springs to the frame drums. These vibrations are turned into sound by the membranes which echo back and forth on the coiled springs. This results in an unique listening experience with an hypnotic surround sound. What you hear in this performance is captured in realtime without any additional effects and with no post audio processing. Check out Görkem Şen other great performances at Soundcloud here and Youtube here .

I discovered this a year or so ago and i definitely agree its hypnotic, i remember playing it to my dad who is an experimental artist himself and after hearing a minute of it he couldn't believe it was an just an acoustic instrument he was hearing, the many sounds that this produces are incredible. Big respect to Görkem Şen. = )
