Maybe some people will disagree with me but today's music is crap at least the popular ones, there are still hidden gems. I miss the good old days of music :(

Today no one cares about making good music everyone just wants the fame and money.

I both agree and disagree with this. Let me tell you why:

What I agree with:

Yes, there is a lot of what I call "commercial" sounding tracks out there with the same chord patterns, the same format and style and it seems to lack imagination.

However, people go with familiar, what they know and because these songs are hammered in to us with repeat plays on the same day in the radio, then it stays in your head.

What I disagree with:

Not all of today's music is crap and it depends where you look. I genuinely stopped listening to mainstream radio stations many years ago and find a lot of music from independent/underground scenes on soundcloud, mixcloud and other platforms.

There's a lot of talented people out there making good music.

In conclusion:

If "all music is crap" then you need to change where you are searching for your music and how you are searching. Plenty of talent out there making good music, you just need to find it :)

i exactly told what you said, i said ''today's music is crap at least the popular ones, there are still hidden gems''....
There are genuine good singers and musicians right now, who write good music, play and sing them exceptionally but they are not getting recognized that much, they remain the hidden gems, and we are blasted with similar sounding without any proper depth pop music over and over again by major record labels. There are many artists i love who are new, they are mostly indie, either i have to search around a lot find them or have to know from word of mouth. They are not getting the spotlight they deserve....

So you did, my apologies, I think I was focusing too much on the "all music is crap" bit!

Yea a lot of it comes down to marketing and I don't think musicians really know how to market themselves properly and like you say, word of mouth is usually the way information spreads. That's actually the best way for anyone to find out about a new artist is through word of mouth (referral).

I've seen many artists just plop a link out and think "that's it, done it. Now I'll wait"... doesn't quite work like that and there's a lot to learn.

I think we're both in agreement on the current state of affairs :)
