Foot Buffalo
After scrambling my brain this morning for something to listen to while getting ready for the day, I came up with nothing. As I commonly do as a solution to this, I hopped over to Stoned Meadow of Doom's YouTube channel to see what gems he's uploaded recently. This post is as much to share his channel as it is to share this album, for he puts in a remarkable amount of work to keep his 200K+ subscribers fed. He posts quality full albums daily hailing from all over the globe, and if you are a fan of doom/sludge/stoner/desert/psych metal or hard rock or whatever the fuck(this is why I don't like genres), I strongly suggest you check out the rest of his channel.
The album
Anyways, I hadn't heard of Foot before. I learned from SMOD's write-up that they are from Melbourne, which kind of makes me think the entire country of Australia is one really big kick-ass band. The opening riff is haunting, and the build up that ensues immediately grabbed my attention, the tiny metal-people in my brain screaming at me "hey, this might be really good!"
The rest of the first track left me wondering how the album was going to proceed. I am by no means saying that it's not a great song, but with such a similar structure to so many of the genre, I was wondering if these guys were going to give us anything unique. And, as I listened to the album, I more and more recognized that these guys are certainly not another generic closet Uncle Acid tribute band. Foot comes in hard, sludgy and grungy and with the passive intent to give you an aneurysm.
I really don't know a ton about this band. This post is rather shorter than I'd like it to be but as with a lot of artists in the genre, there is very very little information easily available about them. I'm sure there's some good info out there in some forums or something but, "Foot" is a pretty difficult band name to search for. This is what is written about the album on their band camp:
This album was written after spending time in country Victoria and forms the over-arching concept of using a beautiful piece of nature as an escape or healing mechanism, in a world that is full to the brim with bullshit.
After I read that, and as I am listening to the album for the second (and a half) time now, it all seems very fitting. I remember reading somewhere, (I think YT comments) that the album is like being buried in warm, moist dirt. I can concur.
Sorry I can't provide more information on this Australian four-member powerhouse. What I can tell you is that I am now definitely a fan of Foot. Yeah. I really like Foot.
You can support them on their bandcamp , and also listen to Buffalo there and their self-titled album, which is what I will be listening to after I make this post.
