Wesley Willis is truly one of the greatest creators ever!
When I first heard his music, I was laughing with a lot of my love in my heart for this true original. A man who came from the homeless streets of Chicago, dealing with a grand case of schizophrenia and music helped solve his problem and changed his life.
The first time I saw him play it was at Emo's in Austin Texas. He rocked the house and played for an hour and a half. During the show I saw this man rock, attack his schizophrenia with visious songs, telling the schizophrenia to suck a cheetah's dick. It was truly beautiful.
One Wesley's art pieces. His art was loved by many.
I later got to meet him and ask for his permission to use his voice in a couple of house tracks I was producing with my partner at the time Andy Hay. Andy had worked with Wesley a couple years back. He recorded to albums with Wesley for a big record label. They never released the albums, but Andy still had the tapes. When we asked Wesley if we could use his voice, he replied, "how much you gonna pay me, a thousand?" We chuckled and chatted with him for a bit. He seemed to remember Andy a bit, and by the end of the conversation, he agreed to let us use his voice with the promise to pay him if the tunes ever got released and made any bucks.
Not to long after this meet, Wesley passed away and left earth. And for me, the world will never be the same with out Wesley!
The musicmight not be for everybody, and for some you will laugh for ass off. and some might here the fight and beautiful struggle Wesley had turned his life into!
The first video in the video album below, is an interview with Wesley. So you can get to know the man before you here his tunes!
please enjoy this great collection of Wesley Willis songs!

I just joined. To get acquainted with the community I started searching some of my favorite musician's names, just to see if the people on here like some of the things I do. I appreciate this essay about Wesley Willis. Its a very nice summary of his career, and its really cool that you included a bunch of videos too. This is the only person I know of that had a respectable fan following that used a (what I'm guessing is) a Casio Keyboard as his main instrument. The canned music sound combined with the crazy lyrics make him one of a kind. I believe he was doing his own version of the blues in a modern setting. Who knew what the blues was better than Wesley? Homeless. Schizophrenic. Fighting demons all the time. Self harm. Having to go to record stores in person with stacks of his own CDs to get his music out there. Wesley Willis is a necessary part of the story of American music. Its also really cool that you got to meet him. Thanks for posting this!
