I started recording songs in 2006, I make rap since 2001 and I had never recorded my voice until one day I came across the mp3 zone of a very popular urban music internet forum . It was a space where users released their homemade recordings, so I dared for first time to record on my computer with help of a friend and was when I met Adobe Audition. Since then I was self-taught about recording and mixing processes, over time I had access to new hardware that made me improve the quality of my product, it was my student days and when I graduated, I moved and started practice my profession so that I didn't have more opportunities to make my own records.
But that concern for hip hop and music never ended, I started to record voice notes on cell phone, odd recording at home with Windows sound recorder captured from the laptop's built-in microphone and I stayed there until months I dared to start creation of a mixtape. I had the lyrics, access to some instrumentals and Steemit to publish but where would I record? Although I have the same laptop that I used when I had a recording studio, I don't have the rest of hardware called interfaces, console and, of course, a decent microphone and buying these equipment in Venezuela is like throwing stones at planes.
Then I was looking at my cell phone and I remembered that in 2010 The Fall launched, the Gorillaz album created completely from an iPad and I thought "8 years have passed since then, it's already possible from an Android" and I started to investigate. There are dozens of applications to create music from the cell phone, but I needed a multi-track sequencer that would allow me to set up an instrumental and enable channels to record my voices. I tried several apps until I got the best one of them and I used it for the recording of Rhymes Therapy: N-TRACK Studio for Android.
It's a multi-track sequencer that offers the possibility of opening as many channels as you need to record or edit your audio clips. Once I tried it I was convinced it would be my best accomplice in the creation of my material, it allowed me to record as if it were on the computer, besides doing small editions like adding reverb and echo. The recording was made by connecting cell phone headphones and recording through the integrated microphone that placed inside the closet to avoid a bit environment sound and street noise. Once the recording of your song is complete, it allows you to export the mix of the clips in different formats: mp3, wav, midi, among others, it's also possible to save session in google drive in a format compatible with desktop versions so that If you want to go a little further in edition you can complete the process in the computer, this option i was discovered today so I didn't have the opportunity to work in Rhymes Therapy but it is a feature that I plan to test in my next song.
If you don't finish recording you can save the session and continue later, however one of its main disadvantages is high consumption of both storage memory and ram. In my case I have an Acer Jade Z Quad-Core with 4GB ram and sometimes it hangs to the point of meriting reboot the app, so it's necessary to save the session whenever changes are made. Although interface is very intuitive and has a huge amount of options to edit and create, navigating the work area is a bit cumbersome.
In the audio world you get what you invest, if you record with a $ 20,000 microphone you get a $ 20,000 sound, if you record with a 50-cent sound you'll get the sound according to that amount. However with a little more work and some tweaks it is possible to fulfill the dream of having a demo with an audible sound that allows you to appreciate your skills in singing or as in my case in rap. N-Track 8 for Android is an application that I recommend for all those people who want to record something and don't have the resources, my mixtape proof it, recorded completely from this app and making the final mix from Adobe Audition 1.5. It only takes a little bit creativity, time and N-Track 8 for that talent to be shown to world.
