I normally write about things that are Thailand specific but the other day I came across a musical film of sorts that really resonated with me. It was a live show in Los Angeles combined with some backstory involving various characters that have been made up by the creator of the band Tobias Forge. I didn't think that a live show "movie" would be this entertaining but it really was amazing and I made it all the way through the film and honestly wanted more.
This just happened to coincide with a new album that Ghost released and I was unaware of it because over here in Thailand we don't really get to hear about that sort of thing very often. When new music comes out, if it isn't something extremely mainstream, we don't end up hearing about it at all.

I didn't get to see it in a cinema because they would never book something like that here. I'm pretty certain it had a limit release and as you can see on the picture it was only for a couple of days anyway.
I'm sure that Ghost can make a ton of money by doing live shows but what a great way to get some publicity and make some money. I have introduced a lot of people to Ghost over the years and I don't think that you have to be a fan of metal to enjoy them. They are just really good and what is so amazing about them is that the lead singer Tobias Forge actually makes all the music by himself and even records most of the instruments on the albums all by himself. I guess he just doesn't create well with others.

If you don't know anything about Ghost I would suggest you give this one a shot because even though most of their gigs seem to have great production value I think they went above and beyond with this one seeing as how they were filming for a cinema release at the same time the show was going on. As someone who knows their album stuff as well as their live stuff I think they actually sound quite a bit better live.
That's a pretty decent trailer but it doesn't really give you much of an idea about how unique this band actually is. The first time I heard them it kind of reminded me of metal, melodic metal, but it also had a lot to do with Satan yet sounded oddly like what I would imagine christian music would probably sound like. It's just kind of a perfect mix in my mind and while Ghost is very popular, I think a lot fewer people know about them than probably should.
Their music is oddly inspiring and motivational and their macabre presentation and references to Satan don't really seem genuine in that I don't think that Tobias is actually Satanic. I don't think anyone in metal is genuinely Satanic, it's just a bit that they use and appears in a lot of metal.
The new album is called Impera and I am just starting to go through all the tracks myself. I thought that Ghost had fallen off a bit with the album that came directly before this one and I didn't like it very much but this one is really good.
here is a link to all the tracks on Impera and it must be legal because all the tracks were posted by the official Ghost YouTube channel. So if you think this might be your kind of thing get in there and check them out because if you do like them you are in for a treat since the band has been around for a very long time and there are tons of great songs in their library.
