After my big Italy trip with my high school's music program, my family and I separated from the group to visit our cousins all over Europe. We went to Switzerland, France, and the United Kingdom as well. But some of the best memories was going to France. We stayed in Paris with our cousins where we got to visit not only the Eiffel Tower, but other huge attractions such as the Palace of Versailles. We also got to go inside and check out the Gardens of Versailles. That is where I got my inspiration for writing this piece. The gardens were huge and beautiful. Unfortunately I did not have my camera back then, so I couldn't take a picture. Nevertheless, the memories of the gardens are still pretty fresh in my mind, that I wanted to write something similar to that experience. What you're going to hear is my telling of a story of going through a garden, similar to that of the Gardens of Versailles.
Picture of me and my family and relatives outside the Palace of Versailles. They just closed the gates and the gardens because they're preparing for a traditional parade.
Program notes: Everyone has did this once in their lifetime. They would stroll across a garden! Walk through the flowers and seeing the beautiful scenary. Well my composition does the same. As you listen across the piece, you can see and realize that every moment, there is a new counter-melody added to the piece. And then as you get to the end of the garden, or in this case the piece, it goes back to the original foundation. And you can see the wonderful site of it all. With just a look of an eye.
Diagnosis & Story:
The strings start the composition with an elegant harmony progression that signifies entering the gardens. The glockenspiels and the music glasses represent the change of views from looking around, with the beautiful flowers, trees, bushes, and the large amount of beautiful insects and butterflies that happen to be around you. Then the music changes to a softer and more pretty-like, elegant touch of music, as if you feel a bit of splashing of water in your face. You just realized you're walking towards a pathway full of large water fountains, with beautiful statues and scenery all along the path way. Then the music changes again to a large brass feature, signifying you coming towards the end of the path way where a beautiful lake resides, full of swans and birds splashing everywhere. Along the side of the lake, you see traditional Versailles royal guards patrolling the area in a dignified manner. The music changes again to a similar progression with the strings. Same scenery, only different guards, wearing different traditional armor, are patrolling on horses. And it continues on! At the very end of the piece, you end up at a large stepping hill where you can oversee the entire garden.
I give you, Garden Walking!
